Buying a car in Eastern states?

Hey guys, I'm looking to fly over to NSW and buy a Subaru and drive it back home.
Now the guy I'm buying the vehicle from wants to sell it unregistered without a RWC. It is currently registered but to sell it needs a RWC.
How do I go about getting this to buy the car? Is it an inspection like 'the pits' which we have over here...
Now over hear on the simple side of the country we don't have all this road worthy certificate s***. Once a car is licenced it stays that way unless the rego isn't paid, it's in an accident or gets a defect sticker by the cops. There are not inspections of sorts. For buying or selling a vehicle you don't need any of this bulls***.

I've been reading online about vehicle moving permits and they state you can go from an A to B destination even going across state boards in all states or territories except WA!!! :huh:
Can't anyone help me out here...?
 
Check the motor rego web sites of both states, Taz.

Perhaps drop by Melbourne on the way back?
 
Opps turns out it's QLD rego'ed but is in NSW. I might try and organise the RWC at my expense to make life easy.

Probably won't have time Ratbag, I'll have 3 days to drive back. I'll be by myself and need to make good time. Hopefully the old high km SF makes it back without an issue.

Does anyone know about taking tool on a plane?
 
I read about this vehicle in the last few days.

Was it here? Or somewhere else?

BTW, I fully understand about the time constraints.
 
in nsw you dont need rwc when selling the car but if you buy car from other state you have to do "blue slip". i think you will have to go to the "pit" in wa if you want the car registered under your name.

As for tool on the plane, easier to pay for check-in luggage.
 
Na it's a red SF with lift kit and Subaxtreme rear bar(the main reason I'm buying it). It's half the price of a new rear bar with carriers so I figure I'll just buy a whole car, drive it back, register here and sell in stock form.
 
Cost of plane ticket, fuel, food, purchase price of car, jeez that bar must be cheap Taza.

Your easiest way is to pay for his rwc to keep it licensed in his name, that way you can cross borders without being stopped, no permits to organize , drive 24hrs a day if wanted and hand the plates in once car registered in Wa.
Make sure you get a receipt of purchase off him otherwise registration will be a nightmare

A RWC runs out after 1000km since inspected in QLD. Has to be done once a year when rego is due to stay registered or when the vehicle is being sold.
It is currently registered but the RWC is way past it's 1000km since last inspection so I will need to organise that to purchase it.
You cannot purchase a vehicle without a RWC even if registered which is a load of ****.
He does not want to keep it licensed in his name while I drive it back as he may incur traffic infringements or incase I have an accident.

I don't plan to keep the car its just for it's goodies.

I've worked out so far $900 will easily cover my petrol expense and I plan to take my swag and camp out of the back of the car for the most part.
 
$900 + purchase of the car, + unexpected issues (important to consider!). Is one of those bars really worth it? not to hard to make similar things up locally, its just bits of metal.
 
Bout 4g locally Andrew if you can get a workshop prepared to do it and do it properly with compliance.

Been through this excersize. Subaxtreme pricing may be steep in some members eyes but try pricing up aftermarket rear bars, bullbars, roof racks for some other make and models and you will soon discover that their pricing is quite competitive.

Minus the price which Taza will sell the car here and he won't be out of pocket that much.
 
There isn't much change left over from 5g once you purchase one and get it to WA.
I can purchase a vehicle, get it back (if issues arent included), use the parts and have a whoke car spare to keep or sell.
 
I agree with ST's suggestion, Taza.

Far cheaper in the long run, and not potentially fraught, e.g. if the vehicle is not able to successfully do a 4,000 km run without problems.

I had my trailer tent shipped from Sydney for this very reason. Half the price of going and getting it, and, as it turned out, there was just no way my mate and I could possibly have fitted it there!
 
I bought my OB from Sydney, it did not come with a pink slip (RWC) and i was not allowed to transfer it into my name as i did not live in NSW, i was told to go do it in WA. Obviously you must take the rego slip that has the signatures stating the car is now sold to you.

Drove it back to here, had to do a blue slip on it to be allowed WA rego and to have it put into my name. I wouldnt worry bout it man, buy it, keep the papers, make sure you carry stop leak, fluids or whatever else, bring a pillow to sleep in the car and drive the sucker over!
It ended up a lot cheaper to buy my OB from over east, have a small holiday there and drive it back than to buy one in WA.
The trip can be done cheap if youre savvy anyway. I also reccommend the Norseman - Hyden shortcut..nice smooth dirt road for maybe 300kms, can do 110 on it easy (least ya could last i was there 6 months ago).

Latest quote with a fully optioned bar would leave me with about 700 bucks change. Now can save around 1200 on top of that if specced down and ask for provisions for later instalment of tyre carrier and jerry can holder to which the new owner of the company will be more than happy to do. More on board the better the saving. Especially over here in the West as freight through TNT is a killer!!

That's for 03 onwards as listed on their new website. For your earlier model Taza, they don't do anymore, so this adventure would be one of your options.

Echo that. Yep, smooth as the proverbial baby's bum when we came back in September. Beats the hell out of going up to GEH.
 
Doing it this way will cost Taz maybe a third of what a new one will cost plus the car comes with other goodies as well.

Its just the issue of driving an unregistered car across the country...
 
^ Temporary rego certificate would rectify that minor little insignificant detail ... :poke:
