Please Say It Ain't So...

My '03 OB does not need an oil top up between services. The engine was reconditioned about 70,000km ago.

I just checked my Forester, after 4,000 Kms of high speed driving, it needs about 1/4 to 1/3 litre to top up. However, measured on the flat here, at Nambucca Heads, whereas our driveway at home is a bit of a slope.

Anyway, rang Scott at Shell, Urunga, and he has put a litre of Shell Helix Ultra 5w-40 FS aside for us to pick up on the way through to Waterfall Way tomorrow morning.

Handy to have on hand, as we are heading towards Tibooburra and Cameron Corner in the next few days.

It is in Australia, unless you don't want to keep your driver's licence ... ;) .
And ambient temperature is around 35+°C most of the time.
And the car is at its allowable GVM, around 2,000+ Kgs.
Passing speeds around 140-160 kmh.
All this is pretty hard on a vehicle.

Another relevant detail is that this speed is maintained for many hours at a time. While most of our roads are narrow and rough, and therefore quite dangerous, they are often very straight for very long distances.

Mistake on my part. See below.

Got a litre of this oil, as promised. When I checked the oil on the flat, it was only about 2 mm below the full mark, so have actually not used any oil or water at all in ~4,000+ KMs.

Still handy to have a litre in the back.

Purchased a new belt pouch for my 65 y.o. Boker pocket knife at a leather work shop in Bellingen. The one my big brother made for me about 65 years ago fell apart (irreparably) some years ago.

After about 8.5 hours driving, we are now at Barrabra. Around 400 KMs in total, with about 100+ Kms on some pretty ordinary dirt "roads". Saw lots of wildlife, without hitting any ...
