SWMBO's MY10 SH CEL

The fuel guage in my MY03 has always been a bit hit `n miss. Seems to run out with about 8 to 10 litres left which is annoying. Means another 80 kms I could use.
Indicates empty, light on, with about 10 kms left before stops completely.
I`ve learnt to live with it in 12 years.

Our SG is gauge deadly accurate.

About 13L per quarter on the gauge. When the needle exactly bisects the empty mark, the fuel light comes on, and there's 8-10L left in the tank. Regular as clockwork ....

I have never run it right out, but have got to the stuttering point once or twice. I always carry a 10L Jerry can, so that's never a problem.

.

Your thoughts on all this? TIA.

For such a small cost - how can you go wrong! :iconwink: If your GPS can run Torque and has Bluetooth it may just all work!

I think one of the fuel guage senders may be crook in my SG as I'm usually on empty when still half full. I take my reading from the scanguage.

^ That was my thinking too, Kevin. My GPS has Bluetooth, but seems not to like talking to my phone! Probably operator error ... :iconwink: .

Does sound as if one of your senders is cactus. Maybe just a dirty terminal? How does one get at them, anyway? Subaru told me that access to the sender in my Impreza was through the boot floor. Be damned if I could find it!

OK. Ordered the latest version of the abovementioned Bluetooth dongle (v2.1). Apparently it reads both OBDII and CAN codes from all makes, and the chips and circuitry used are a knock-off of a brand known to work properly with Torque for Android.

Cost including 'expedited' shipping was AUD$11.83. Not the end of the Earth if it doesn't work ... ;)

I will download the free version of Torque to make sure that it works properly with the dongle before I pay for the s/w.

If it all plays nicely together, I will install it on both my phone and the HP tablet.

All up, cheaper than a decent shifting spanner (see above .. ) ... :poke:  :rotfl:.

Under the rear seat there's 2 x access plates to the top of the tanks.

^ I have my rear seat floating around in the back of my car. Has been for months.

I'll go have a look ... :poke:

^ Thanks, Zippo & Kevin. Found them under the back seat squab at the far left and far right hand sides.

BTW folks, I got the Bluetooth OBDII scanner on Christmas Eve.

A little review of it here:

Checked the SH again yesterday, and no codes either current, pending or historic ....

No further problems with the SH. Running and idling smoothly.

Pulled a code that my friend's Suzuki Grand Vitara V6 has been throwing sporadically for the 2 years he has owned it - P2227. Cleared it. It hasn't come back for over a week now. I also cleaned the crap off the tank seal and lip.

It is a very nice car, and nicely made, even if it is slightly larger than our SH ... It has a really weird 4WD system that involves chains and handcuffs! Just joking about the handcuffs :rotfl:.

I always thought that the Grand Vitara was slightly smaller than the SH Foz. It has shorter front and rear overhangs and a smaller boot, doesn't it?

The 4wd system is pretty basic, RWD, 4Hi and 4Lo through a chain-driven transfer case. Pretty standard 4x4 system, nothing too flash. Not even on-demand.

I reckon Mitsi has a pretty cool system. RWD, AWD, 4Hi and 4Lo all in one transfer case. Pretty sweet being able to access all those modes.

Sure is! :iconwink: (wish my Triton had 4 lo unlocked as well - but it doesn't)

Gidday KF

Side by side, the Suzuki Grand Vitara is slightly bigger than the SH.

What is really surprising is that the SH is almost identical in size to the same MY Ford Territory! Checked it against cousin's ...
