^ Yes. It adds value to the agreed sum insurance.
DON'T call it a "bash plate" ... :iconwink: .
Call it a "sump guard", and point out that it decreases the likelihood of the insurer having to pay out for accidental damage to your car due to road conditions ....
I have found that most things come down to how one describes something, rather than what it might be! :rotfl:. Crazy, but true.
You do not need to provide the compliance certificate (unless they specifically ask for a copy, of course). All SubaXtreme sump guards (and other bits too, AFAIK) are air bag/ADR compliant. Always keep all receipts for accessories, servicing, repairs, etc.
I make it a habit in these increasingly litigious times to take photographs from all angles about once a year, after we give our cars their annual wash ... . These should include photos of extras, and both internals as well as exterior shots. Takes less than five minutes to do, and will tend to shut the gob of the most pedantic loss adjuster ... I have dealt with some doozies in that profession over my long life!
A short list of the items on our policy documents:
1) OEM tow bars
2) Sheepskin seat covers
3) floor mats
4) the OEM stereos (there are many different versions of these - the ones in our cars were a $1,300 extra)
5) fog lights (not standard on all cars)
6) both cars are described as "XS", not just as "Forester" ...
7) SWMBO's tranny is specifically mentioned as 4EAT with Sportshift, as some models did not come with the Sportshift auto, and it was significantly more expensive.
8) the spare wheels get a mention, as both are alloy. Roo2 came with a steel spare as standard. The matching alloy spare cost me $195. RR came with the alloy spare as standard, but some cars didn't.
9) the Momo steering wheel in RR gets a mention (extra cost)
10) both cars have cargo barriers (around $650-$850 fitted ... )
11) the sump guard now fitted to my car (Roo2) is yet to go on the policy.
IOW, list everything ...
Same goes for my camper trailer.
Full, written disclosure and listing (with an agreed value for each item) will save lots of problems later. If your car is stolen and torched, its condition is whatever a loss adjuster says it is ... UNLESS you have the photos, service records, etc, etc.
Roo2 and RR are still insured for an agreed value of about what we paid for them 2.75 and 2 years ago respectively.
I remain in an amicable relationship with my insurer/s ... .
