Haven't completely forgotten how to use an arc welder

OK, some photos.

No laughing allowed - sorry aloud - either at my terrible welding, or the new welding helmet ... :lol: :rotfl:.

First, some practice runs. Bear in mind that I couldn't even see the work until the arc struck ...

The above with the old welding helmet, when I couldn't see what I was doing! The penetration is very high. The scrap is my 5 x 3 x 5/16~3/8" 'anvil' that's a bit of RSC. The heat from the welds is very obvious on the opposite side of the work piece.

Here's the new welding helmet. I haven't tried it out yet.
