Its about reducing turbulence in the exhaust flow. Greater the turbulence, higher the back pressure in the exhaust as engine speeds rise and higher the exhaust temps (EGT's).
Now when it come to tuning diesels, there are 4wd brands with electronic diesel pumps and the old tech mechanical pumps. I'm pretty sure Twinklz has a mechanical pump.
Either way, when messing around with diesels for optimum tuning, generally you need to tweak the diesel pump mechanically or electronically via a software install.
That's why I suggested Twinklz speak to UFI as they do these mods to old tech and hi tech 4wd diesels daily.
