Subaru Leone L series or Outback.

My dad's old Neon used to do that. A friend who's an auto transmission mechanic said it's because the fluid won't run through the valves in the gearbox on its own. The correct way to fill it up is fill a bit, run it for a few minutes, changing through D N R and P, then check the dipstick and repeat.

How do you find the auto in the Leone? I'm thinking of buying one as a family 4WD holiday car but my fiance demands an auto.

sorry for the late response blufires been without the net for a while. I find the automatic fun but I will admit the 3 speed auto does seem a little crude but it isn't too bad. Having rebuilt the carby for the cost of 79 dollars for a kit I am now seeing radical improvements in both power and economy. My last measurement was 9.6L per 100. Going from Yamanto to Raceview then to Carole Park and back 3 times a week. Mix of city and highway.

As a family 4wd and holiday car I will say once it gets Aircon its going to be awesome for this. It goes really well off road given the crappy tires it has.

I found the three speed in my old touring wagon surprisingly good, but it was coupled to an ea82t.

I find mine goes quite well now that it's got 195/65r14s it goes way better off road.

Bigger tyres

Not one tooth out. 20 degrees is the setting for the MPFI (EFI) EA82. Someone got their wires crossed when they set the timing on your carb EA82.

As Subytim has said, 8 degrees give or take. If it pings at all back off a degree and see if it does it again. If running premium you can run more advance to take advantage of that type of fuel.

As for better fuel economy, you're getting about the right figures for that engine and gearbox combination. Expect economy to blow out with larger tyres.

The auto should go ok offroad, definitely run a lager/aftermarket cooler. Make sure you've got enough oil in the front diff - and make sure it's not red, otherwise you've got a blown seal between the diff and the gearbox. Only run diff oil in the front diff, making sure you're actually putting it in the front diff!

Cheers

Bennie

I now see what you mean about the tyres. on my 175/70R13s I was getting between 9.4-and 10.2L per 100l. Now with 195/65R14s and roof racks and basket I am getting about 13.02-13.12L per 100 and 15L per 100 when towing or when running 98 octane. Loves to drink the 98 even with a new carby kit and advancing timing *shrugs* better millage out of the 91 for me and its cheaper so that side doesn't bother me much.

These economy figures are with me driving it like miss dasy making sure on exits I am getting up to 100kms per hour by the end of the merge lane but granny driving it to avoid it down shifting.
