Found steel bits in Rear Diff

yeh you can shim up a diff, i didn't think it'd work with the type of viscus we have tho

That "friend" & I will talk about it on the weekend club trip.

re "We go anywhere & everywhere together as nothings too hard in a Forry"

Except the bits that fall out of the rear diff

Will be interested to hear all about that "chat" when you return. :)

As benwarn suspected, using shims will only work in diffs without the sealed LSD.

Thanks for the advice guys, it much appreciated. :bananatoast:
Now do I have my current diff rebuilt, or search around some wrecking yards, hopefully find a good one, put it in & take my chances with it.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.....

I think price has to be considered and - how long do you intend to keep the car? Cusco would be great - but you have to weigh up other factors.

Yes SKT a Cusco would be great. :)
But as Kevin states price has to be the main factor. I do intend to keep my Forry for a few more years yet so thats not going to be a major issue. So now I guess it's time to get a couple of quotes.

I suppose the thing here is - no one actually knows what the bits are that fell out. And, it's not making any noise. If it were an "on-road" only vehicle I would be very tempted to leave it until it shows some sign of collapse, however, we don't want to get stuck out in the middle of no where I suppose

true true, but its a good excuse to get a nice rear diff. I guess if you always travel with someone else, then it's prolly not too bad, you can just limp home in fwd if its auto and fwd with half power in manual

Thats so true.

And, it's not making any noise.
Of which I'm hoping is not the calm before the storm. :o

And knowing my luck, thats when it will give up the ghost. :furious:

It sure is a good excuse. And since I never venture out alone, if the worst came to the worst, I can always limp home.

I think for the moment though, I'll just keep a very close eye (& ear) on it.
But once I hear the slightest sound coming from it, I'll pull it out & whack a new one in. :iconwink:

Once again, thanks for the help & info everyone.

Damn...... Whats with all you people talking sense into the man. We nearly had a cusco in his car....

Nah.... seriously..... hope you dont have any catastrophic failures mate. Nothin brings a tear to the eye like a wounded Suby.

Give it time mate, give it time :) , because when it does give up the ghost, there is a very strong chance, if not a certainty, a cusco will be going in as a replacement.

fantastic, someone go round to his house and empty his diff fluid, then he'll have a cusco, but wait till we get our $900 of big kev

Well I'll race you buddy. I am going to have something done diff wise by this xmas. Had enough of wheel spin. I'll wait till I get to Brissy and find someone who knows what they are doing for the install and setup. The guy that did my transplant near Noosa will probably be my choice.

Unless I can find some sort of locker setup before then that is.....

If you get a 2nd diff, you can always have it welded.
That's one way to get a locker.

The only problem with that is that you would have to swap the standard diff out with the welded one each time you went out for drive on the dirt.
