Had the major service (100k) done on my Forry today (my05 XT man) & they found a couple of small steel bits in the rear diff oil when they changed it. :madred:

There is no whining sounds or any other sounds in the diff at the moment, but, they said the diff will need to be replaced / rebuilt in the very near future.

Now, do I go the stock OEM diff again as a replacement, or should I go for something different, which would be better suited for offroading ?

Also is there anyone who could recommend someone to do the job & what sort of $$$ would be a reasonable price.

Any advice would be great.
Thanks in advance.

 Looks like those could be gear teeth. SKT was talking about Cusco, you might look into those.

Oh yeah.......

You oughta go a Cusco mate
I am so keen to start playing with diffs but I would like someone 'else' to do the testing... same old story.

Sorry to see your diff is falling to bits! Cusco would be nice - so long as they can cope with the power of the XT.

i guess they're really made for racing, so the power should be right

Oh, bad news man! Sorry to hear that. Wouldn't it be nice to put in a Locker? I wonder if something made for a Suzi might go close to fitting? I guess if it did, someone would've done it:shrug:

hmmm, i was talking to arb and they said they'd have a crack at making something up

^That would be excellent!

Now that would be sweet if they did come up with something :discomonkey:
But I wonder what sort of money they would be charging for one.

As a matter of interest, which ARB (branch, suburb) were you talking to, as I would be very interested in pursuing this further.

dude you should have put fluoride in the gear oil
And some listerine aswell :raspberry: :)

Yes I'm keen as mustard (as I said earlier) to learn more about what ARB have in the works. If I get a spare moment tomorrow I give them a call & see what I can find out. Hopefully it's positive news. :iconwink:

If they needed a batch of 5 or 10 to get it done I'd sign up asap :discomonkey:

Good luck with ARB,

They actually advertised along with OME ( Old man emu ) to have many parts available for imrpoving Forester / Outback models. However when approaching personally they told me that no plans have ever been put in the pipeline and the ads were a load of horse ****e. STill if they custom make you anything, let us all know so we can get some orders happening and hopefully convince them otherwise! :)

well it was in the arb tent at agfest, so i think that was the launceston store

Thanks mate.

Well I gave ARB a call today & they are a no go unfortunatly :sadbanana:

They did however give me the names of a couple of places that I could try.
So I will check them out in the next couple of days to see what they have to say. :) Hopefully it's positive.

Well, after checking out these other places, I have again unfortunatly come up empty handed :puke:

However, on a more positive note though, I do have one more option to consider :)
After talking to a friend of mine, who knows a thing or two about cars (Subarus especially) it appears that I can have "extra shims" fitted into the LSD part of the diff. This turns them into almost a locked diff when the LSD cuts in.:discomonkey:

He knows of a Subaru that had it done, & was amazed at how tight the LSD was, almost a locker

I'll make some more inquiries regarding these "extra shims" being fitted & go from there.
