Took my car to ARB Bega today to see why the engine light is coming on.
3 codes came up..
P0133...Intake Air Temp Sensor 1 Circuit High
P0502...Vehicle Speed Sensor A Circuit Low
P0519...Idle Air Control System Performance.
He cleared the codes, took it for a test drive and rescanned ...found only 1 code...P0519.
The car was idling as rough as guts but now seems fine although it's a fraction fast.
Goes normal once driving and fuel economy seems fine. The engine light is still on but was off for a while. It came on when I changed from 5th to 4th at about 80klms p/h.
I gather the Vehicle Speed Sensor A Circuit Low would be to do with the speedo/odometer not working.
Is anyone familiar with any of these codes and if so can I fix stuff myself??? Thanks.

Im not sure if yours is the same but they are generally bolted on top of the throttle body with a small coolant line coming into it.

My favourite way to clean it is to fill it with petrol and let it soak for a few mins pour out and wipe down inside with a rag or lint free cotton buds. Then repeat a couple of times.

EDIT: I dont think yours has a coolant line. Can clean the same way ive said though. A quick google search will show you exactly where and what they are for your model.

Nice Davidov. Petrol is an awesome degreaser/cleaner.

I like to use brake cleaner. It will self dry!! with no residue. Perfect for cleaning ICV's, TPS, throttle valves etc.

Clean rags/microfiber cloths always disappear in my household.

Just remember not to immerse your hands in petrol more than necessary. It is absorbed through the skin, and can/will cause liver damage ... :(.

Much better to use commercial degreasers, and follow the safety instructions to the letter!

Organic solvents can be very dangerous, usually are ... .

Agree with RB, dont use petrol or brake fluid on your hands. Both can cause chemical burns & can be absorbed into the bloodstream & cause a variety of health problems, incl cancer :(

Silver, I've been watching this thread but been unable to offer any advice. I hope you can sort it out

Well I had a look but unfortunately I have no idea what I am looking for so have no idea what to do..a can of Subaru engine cleaner maybe??? I know how to do that:ebiggrin:

I just got a phone call from ARB regarding a replacement Idle Control Sensor re one of the codes.
$825!!!! and no charge for fitting as it only takes a few minutes!! Bloody hell...that seems like a rort!! He also advised me they did clean it when it was in for a check.

Get a quote from subarupartsgirl over at subaruforester.com I get my sensors from her and the price is much better even including shipping

^ That's plain ugly and outrageous, Silver!

How can a single sensor cost 2.5% of the cost of an entire new car of the same model range?

Simple answer is that it can't.

The Mafia and the banks are honest by comparison with that.
It's plain and simple gouging ... :puke: .

That's exactly what I thought....37 sensors = 1 new car???? Bulls..t!!!
The car is running good once you have it going...the idle was too high and yesterday I disconnected the battery and reconnected it this morning before going out and the light was off and it was running fine but the light came back on in about 10 mins and it is back to stalling if you don't watch it.
I'll try that subarupartsgirl as suggested. The car is going anytime after this August and to tell the truth it probably needs some $2 or $3k spent on it to bring it up to scratch. Ideally the clutch would be done and the two sensors fixed and a good wheel alignment done. That's close enough to $3k if the price of the senor(s) is the same.
I don't really want to do anything to it and might just have a price and reduce it by $3k and let someone else worry about it. When I'm ready to part with it i'll post up anyway as it could well suit some handy person here.

Kevin....I have joined up with subaruforester.org and have seen subarupartsgirl name around but have not yet had a good look over the site. I see she is in the US and was wondering how that affects parts like the idle control motor I am after?? Would their cars been tuned different or anything like that? How do you initiate contact with subiegirl if you want a part???

As long as the part numbers match, it should be interchangeable. I always get a part number first, either on the net or calling the local parts department and work from there when sourcing a part overseas/internet land. Hydrowill had success with Logicar in Melbourne for some sensors at a much more reasonable price than from Subaru, could be worth asking them? Sure they could post to you.

subiepartsgirl (Jackie) is very knowlegable - give her your exact model and she should be able to work it out. Send her a PM on SF.org.
