Sand flag?

Gidday David & Twink

For the purpose of a sand flag that you might put on once every now and then the orange conduit will be fine. Just watch it for signs of cracking and brittleness.

The uv issue is only because conduit installations are for decades or longer in permanent sun, which this sand flag will likely never see.
If youve got it, I dont see any harm in trying it. Better than paying 300 bucks or something stupid.

Exactly right ...

I'm buying 4M of orange conduit, as an experiment I'll leave one length on my roof for the next 10 months and the other 2M in my garage underneath a cloth, and I'll see how they're going week by week

You won't, for the reason David gave.

Why not just buy the grey UV stabilised electrical conduit?
It's the flag that is there to be seen, not the conduit ... You can always paint the grey conduit if you want to. It is formulated to be painted. It is also formulated to be highly impact resistant, same as the orange stuff. Perhaps not quite as tough, but no pushover either.

Of course, if you are planning to bury the Twinkmobile for a couple of decades or so, the orange stuff is definitely the way to go ... :poke: :rotfl:.

BTW, I'll bet that grey stuff is heaps cheaper too, but I haven't priced any recently.

Well, my local hardware store wants $6 forma 4M length of orange conduit, so I'm going with that

I was going to use something similar, probably ditch the antenna base completley

I reckon your second sand flag would look much better on a certain red XS than hidden under a cloth in your garage.

:woohoo: I'll either pick it up on our next adventure or the next time I'm South of Perth. But definitely before I go on my sand camp trip.

Really? Whoa, I guess I found my go-to hardware store!

Well, pipe is in the garage, cut in half with half a yellow and silver Hi-Viz vest duct taped to it, just have to figure out how to secure it to my roof, my mechanic mentioned using air line fittings, will be investigating that further

And once you do yours I will copy your design. Are attaching yours to the roof rail, or making a bracket that comes out from under the bonnet?

I'll be securing it to the front left hand side if my roof basket actually

Pretty soon I believe they will also regulate the size and shape of your poo and we'll all need sphincter transplants to comply! :iconwink:

Be sure to report back here after you have yours fitted Kev, we can then decide as to whether we comply or go feral and hide up in the Daintree or somewhere even more remote.

Does anyone have any mounting ideas? Kinda stuck for cheap and simple mounting ideas?

Attach a 500mm length of rio bar to the roof rack and slip the conduit over it. Build up two points on the bar with electrical tape so its a nice snug fit.

How bout weld a suitable size section of pipe (about 1' long) to a piece of flat bar which you can then clamp to the roof basket

Either way you need something metal to bolt to the rack/basket that the pvc can slip over/inside.

A rod (inside) will put the force on the inside front making it less likely to kink the pvc.

A pipe will put the force on the rear outside pushing in but will be easier to drill a hole through and a pin to hold it together.

At the end of the day it aint rocket science.
