2 Mile Track, Reefton

Looks awesome guys! Damn I wish I was there!!!

I just watched that video of Venom sliding backwards down the hill and thought why are the front wheels sliding? Shouldnt the DCCD have locked the front and rear so that they turn at the same rate? From what I can see both front wheels are sliding and both back wheels are turning.

Brakes would be the reason in my book - the fronts are powerful and all the weight is on the rear, any brake use will lock up the front brakes in this case.

Hydrowill, I reckon you'd be surprised how your box with that setup would go. I've got an open rear end and 99% of the time don't have any issues...

When would the next trip likely to be? I'm keen to be there - just that a 6 hour round trip wasn't very appealing when we had a house inspection to prep for... I reckon I'll camp out the night before the next one.

Cheers

Yep thats exactly why the fronts lock up like that but Dedman means why isnt the system locked up.

A DCCD doesnt actually lock up, it controls how much torque gets sent front or rear. So its not as good as a locked centre offroad but simpler & cheaper to install. Plus a locking AWD box is hard to find & if you dont lock it offroad, it very quickly wears out. Venom used to have one but switched to the DCCD

What gearbox is Rick running in his L-Series?

Not sure, I think a locking AWD box

You should of attempted it NL.

Haha, no thanks. I may have made it with heaps of momentum but didnt fancy sliding backwards all the way back down if I didnt. Watch Venom lift a wheel near the top. That would've stopped me with my open front diff & viscous centre

Remember, they made a difficult climb look easy :monkeydance:

I'm sure that's all that Rick runs in his L's!

Did you see the pick of him doing my party trick (crabbing along) on facebook from 4wdTV a few weeks ago?

Cheers

When I turn the knob to 50/50, it does lock up, its so tight that I can't make a U-turn on asphalt without making big "clonks". And the steering wheel is very hard to turn.

After I stalled the car the centre diff went back to auto mode. The DCCD certainly does lock up, you have to turn it off if you want to turn!

That makes more sense. I was very disappointed with the dccd performance in that video on the way down but good to hear there was a reason behind it.
