Rev matching lost

I actually find the hill holder very handy getting out of my driveway in reverse. Took a few goes to get used to it but now its second nature. Not sure if I would like it as much on a nasty dirt hill though.

Calling Subi today. I will post the results :)

Nope, not a standard feature at all. Hrmmm, I might need to chase up the previous owner i reckon.

Anyone have any idea how he might have done it. Just as a bit of background, the previous owner was a mechanic at S&J Automotive, a well respected performance shop for subis.

RB the issue is when inching backwards with the clutch depressed the hill hold does not allow the brakes to release (as it is designed to do).

Adds complexity on a 30deg incline of deeply rutted pea gravel. Somewhere it is not welcome.

that's typical behaviour when it's out of adjustment, mate.

Stilson first thing I did on all my subys was disconnect it. Not a fan at all. I found it annoying even when adjusted correctly. Especially when it is not the only car you drive all the time.

I have never heard of a Subaru having a rev matcher and a (very) quick google search came up with nothing. Closest thing I could find is this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synchronized_down_shift_rev-matching_system

Sounds complicated. Probably more complicated than matching revs manually.

It took me a while to get used to the hill holder at first when reversing. But now I barely notice it except when starting on steep hills, where I'm so glad I have it!

Offroad isnt an issue as I have a cable throttle. When coming back down a steep hill after a failed attempt, I dont use the clutch. If its slippery, I let the tyres grip using the AWD; if rocky I brake & let the engine stall if I go too slow.

Let us digress further :) RB can you explain at which point the hill hold should be engaging? I'm sure it is functioning as intended.

Right, figured it out. Turns out that the previous owner had added more goodies to the car that he told me about . Not only does it have a stage two EcuTek ECU upgrade but it also has the RaceROM.

One of the things this little little thing does is rev match on the downshift...Now I just have to figure out how to get it back...

That's pretty cool doug, have you spoken to him? If he sit it once it might be much easier for him to program again.

at the very least he might know how to reboot the ecutek which might get it reading correctly again.

So here are the features that I get with the Race Rom

TO SWITCH BETWEEN TUNES
1. Ignition On (don't start)
2. WOT (accel to floor)
3. Press Rear Demister Button
4. 'Check Engine Light’ flashes
• Once slowly for Low Boost
• Eight times fast for High Boost

AUTO-BLIP ON DOWNSHIFT
Will engage when:
1. Speed is over 60kph
2. Brake is depressed
3. Clutch is depressed (while brake is still depressed)

FLAT-FOOT SHIFTING
Will engage when:
1. Speed is over 60kph
2. Accelerator is over 60%

LAUNCH CONTROL
Will engage when:
1. Car is Stationary
2. Clutch is depressed
3. 1st Gear is selected
4. WOT
5. Release Clutch and Hold-On…..

Havent had a chance to actually check whats going on with mine as I have been in the work V8 cruiser for the past week...tough life. Going to have a play tonight and see if i can get it all back

The surprises you get when buying a second hand car aren't usually this good.

I'd trade my spare wheel well full of water for launch control any day.

got it all sorted now. Had a fiddle and took her for a spin last night and got it all back. Also turns out for the last 12 months I have been running on the low boost setting. Flicked it over to the high boost setting...holy smokes! Haven't given Launch control a go yet, figure I might just save my clutch for important things like driving and gear changes. Nice to know its there if i need it though. I dropped it back to Low Boost as well, no point pushing the engine hard smoking 3 car lengths at a time on the way into work.

Why is your wheel well full of water?
I don't know, the day after I bought it I went to check the spare tyre pressure and the well was flooded with fresh water.

Yeah it's good you can control the boost like that. The engine and drive-train will last longer but you can still have fun every now and then. Hopefully the previous owner hasn't been flogging it too much.

Awesome :lildevil:

So how did you get your rev matching back?

Apparently removing the battery switches it all off. Once I started playing around with throttle and the demister button things started flashing at me. Cant really claim it was more than me poking buttons

;p

That sounds like an awesome piece of kit! I bet it was a PITA to fit though!

Cheers
