Hey Guys,

I have done a bit of a search but with no results. Maybe I am using the wrong terms...

I have lost the rev matching on down shift in my 07 Forester XT manual. I didn't realise for a while so I don't know how long it has been missing for but last night I went for a bit of a run through the hills and was really looking for it on some of the heavy down-shifts and ended up busting out the heal-toe.

The only thing I can think is that I replaced the battery no long ago, the factory battery finally died after 7 years and was replaced with an optima yellow top. is there a setting or a reset procedure I need to do to get it back?

Cheers in advance!

yeah, under under moderate - heavy braking the ECU would bump up the revs to match the road speed of the car for a downshift. Basically, as close as I could figure, the ECU would detect load on the brakes and when you popped the clutch it would assume a downshift is coming, and pop the revs to match the road speed. Very handy little trick.

^^Me either.

Have you tried resetting your ECU ?
Perhaps that might work.

Regards
Mr Turbo

In all the 253,000km of driving my 07 XT manual I have never noticed this...
And I'm in NZ at the moment "enjoying" the constraints of a 63kW Toyota Yaris and can't even go out and check on it (How can a car have so little top end? Forget taking it over 3000rpm )

Thats a very handy feature. You might have to talk to a Subaru tech & hope they know. When you find out, make sure you let us know :iconwink:

Interesting, here I was thinking that it was a standard feature. I'll give subi a buzz today and see what the go is.

Subaru's have had so many features. I love the hill holder clutch, I wish they'd bring that back.

I find the hill holder restrictive when having to reverse down a tight and steep decline after a failed climb. Have to hold clutch in the mm of travel between hh engagement and clutch bite or select neutral (never!). Depress too far and brakes can lock, depress not enough and the ecu detects a stall and increases rpm, firing you downhill.

I can drive around it but I can take off on a hill too.

Might wander out to the shed and disconnect mine now, wonder if I could convert it to a 4wheel park brake...

(Apologies for continuing the thread jack Doug)

Or you could not fail in your first attempt of the climb. A 4 wheel park brake would be useful on the boat ramp, sometimes the rear wheels slide.

Back to what the threads about - Has anyone else tested out their rev-matching? I haven't had a chance to test mine yet, been nearly 2 weeks since its left the garage.

Sounds as if your hill holder needs adjustment, mate. Apparently, it's extremely easy to adjust.

I don't have any of those sorts of issues with mine, and I routinely back out of a friend's driveway that is fairly horrible, even though just a "normal" suburban dirt drive.

RB the issue is when inching backwards with the clutch depressed the hill hold does not allow the brakes to release (as it is designed to do).

Adds complexity on a 30deg incline of deeply rutted pea gravel. Somewhere it is not welcome.
