Maxtrax.....????

I have used my camper ramps is a similar way and they got me out of the sand. It worked well and would expect these to work better as they are longer and made to work for alot heavier vehicles. Suppose the only issue is the price and space to carry them.

That idea is older then the hills. Here on Long Island there are steel versions laying around some of the 4wd beaches left over from ww2. They are steel heavy but come in really handy when you get stuck.

I have no issues with the concept.... I have used this kind of contraption before.... I am more curious about the specific product or something simliar... maybe a little cheaper too..... I dont way 4-5 tonne.....

Both same product numbers with two different prices....

Much more suitable though. Might be a little harder to wedge that one under a wheel.....

I've seen maxtracks in action and they work great. I've been looking at getting some for a while, but that price...

I'm not sure about those bushranger ones, as SKT said, bit hard to wedge under a wheel, and I'm sure I've seen a video posted on here somewhere of people trying to use them without much success.

Surely someone has the know-how to make a mould of something similar to maxtracks?

Space would be an issue if you chuck them on the roof with the shovel.

Not the best pic but the maxtrax got me out of a situation on a beach in the NT.I don't own a set of matraxs,a mate had a set, i do have a shovel snatch etc which couldn't get me out of that situation. They are pretty good and double as a shovel.Would i buy a set ...probably not.My real offroader subaru doesn't get stuck only the wife's.:rotfl:

Having all the recovery gear - snatch strap, recovery-rated points etc works really well IF there's another vehicle around. These Maxitracks could save hours of digging if you're by yourself (which happens to me as I only get to play mid-week due to shifts:cry:).

Three hundred bucks? I'm sure there's not too many mods on our Subs that cost less than that. :poke:If people are reluctant to pay that for something they hopefully will not use very often, why pay heaps more for a bullbar or snorkel? To me, $300 is cheap insurance:biggrin:

Most of the "big" 4bys carry them on the roof.

Thats a good point Kerri, and one that my brain keeps trying to tell my wallet, but my wallet doesn't listen to my brain very much. Mind you the argument is usually the other way around!

I know I use most of my mods whenever I go offroad... sometimes even in traffic ....
But those sand dealies....??? I can see me using them maybe 2-3 times in the next 12 months.....

I guess bang-for-buck is how I decide what to spend on.

hmm, i've wondered too how well they work, i have heard good reports too, seen roothy use them a few times aswell, hehe. Um i think with a forester everything you can get your hands on to make recoveries easier is well spent in a way, but yeh, they're pretty expensive. i mean for 300 you can buy a propper hand winch, sure it's a lot of mucking about but it'll get you out

However, if you're on a beach with nothing to anchor the hand winch, it ain't gunna get you anywhere! :iconwink:

I think it also depends what you want from your days: if you like the idea of spending a couple of hours burying your spare tyre to use as a sand anchor, working up a huge sweat using the winch, then diggin up the tyre again and packing it all away, then more power to you! If you like to spend your days actually driving, these things will get you out in a matter of minutes with minimal exertion.

For me, they sound like a great safety feature as I can't operate a hand winch. I'll certainly be getting some when I can afford them:biggrin:
