oh, you can have the Mondays on a Wednesday...

I dont know about Mondays or Wednesdays, but Forester really got me
My intent was to keep this car in our family and make it "our baby"
I took care about Forester and gave him best possible service (oils every 3,000 , only synthetic , best filters , best fuel, washing , cleaning...) I protect him with skid plates , i gave him lift kit
But all i got back was rattles , noises ,loose plastics, lack of comfort , engine starts after 3-4 attempts in cold weather, and back pain in long trips, burning oil , and oil sweating gasket that making top part of engine looks like 10 years old engine )
Last week i changed the oil and i heard noise from engine...Like two metal disk rubbing each other if there is no layer of oil between them noise...It wasnt really bad , but was annoying enough to understand that it will be worst with miles climbing up...
really!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
its 26,000 not hard miles car
really!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway i pissed off so bad, that i research for two weeks for another SUV and another week for deal hunting and i came to dealership last Saturday and trade "S.h.i.t.aru Forester" in for another brand ...
By By Subaru see you never...
-----------
While having agile driving, good acceleration and amazing off road capabilities for crossover it was very bad "romance" You really need to be huge fan of Subaru to own this one...
Sorry, guys , i know you really loving Subarus here , but its look like i am not "fanatic" enough for Forester....
And its not about you guys, its about Subaru, that missing something or lost something on the way...

I drive a 2000 Forester which I really love. Had my headgasket issues but I bought it with 150,000 miles so I knew that was gonna happen. I hate to agree with the sentiment but I was not impressed with that generation of Forester.

I was car shopping for my SO about 6 months ago and I immediately thought a newer subaru would be perfect. I went and test drove a 2010 Forester with ~60,000 miles on it and I was really unimpressed with it. The whole thing just felt huge and kind of cheap. The entire time I was driving it I just couldn't think of anything about the car that would make t worth replacing my old Forester.

However, I have had a pretty good experience with my current Forester and I recently test drove the Crosstrek, which I really liked, and will probably be next car.

I've been extremely impresses with my forester, all my major problems are self inflicted

I know what you mean about the rattles mine has heaps of them. The build quailty is good but not perfect. No better than any other Japanese car from the early 2000 era.

It is possible you had a lemon. What are you moving into next?

My sister has had 2 Subies & her partner has had 2. When she recently was looking for a new car, I recommended she not look at a new Subie. Mr Fuji has seriously lost his way & is losing fans in droves.

The older Subies are great...my ultimate would be a MY hatch & '06 SG Foz XT

The 07 XT has a neater Momo steering wheel without the line running through the rim and without the perforations - just a less shiny unmarked leather look, a neater centre console without that messy cup holder next to the stereo which then could be centred in the console (it already has 2 cup holders in the front anyway), tinted windows & that rear spoiler (which is definitely not my thing but some love it and I've heard it costs up to $1500 to option it really!?) And they both suffered from the secondary air pump problem.

Actually the ONE to get is the 08 SG XT which got the bottle holder in the door as part of the door pocket and the clip on the rear wheel arch lining that holds the rear seat belt in place when not in use. And it also didn't have the air pump problem because Subaru had by that time realized what was causing it and replaced the metal reed valves in the exhaust with plastic ones which don't corrode. The 08 was sold from Aug 07 to Feb 08 in Australia and so there aren't many of them around. they also had a different colour choice. I think steel grey - somewhere between the premium silver and the urban grey used on the 07 model - was one of the popular colours and was used on the following SH Forester

Guess each to his own! Mine has its fair share of rattles, gets a new one every time I hop in I reckon! I quickly forget about them though, even on long road trips. Considering that my next car will probably be an old 4WD I reckon that's going to rattle as much so really couldn't care a less. I would much prefer a practical off road car which has a few rattles here and there, than a luxury car which you'd never take offroad in fear of getting a rattle.

Gidday Tempo

Sorry your experience with Subarus has been so bad .

Mine have all been the exact opposite. All three have performed faultlessly.

Like the cars that most of us can actually afford to buy, they are what we call in Oz a "white goods car" or "fridge on wheels". Not the fanciest, but well thought out, well designed and well built. They are not perfect, whatever that might be, but no one in their right mind expects a consumer level car to be so.

I also guess that it is possible for all manufacturers to produce the occasional lemon on wheels ... Subaru just seem to have far fewer of these than most other manufacturers, IME.

I had a brand new lemon in my youth :( (not a Subaru), but after the initial teething problems (took over a year to get some of the defects fixed ... :madred: :yell: :furious:), it served me well until its death at about 168,000 miles.
So I do understand your feelings.

All the best with the Kia, if that's what you decide on. I hope you have a far better experience with it (or whatever ... ) than you appear to have had with your Forester.

Sorry to hear about your experiences in your Forry.

Hope you have better luck & many happy km's in your new set of wheels :)

Regards
Mr Turbo

I also have a 2009-2012 Forester and have non of the above. Along with our family friend who also has the same generation with none of the above. But please, your experience should let you make these generalised statements about the brand as a whole.

Oh, you read customer reviews. Funny how when someone has a good experience they never post it on these websites, yet when we have a bad experience we tell the whole world. Therefore that source is poor and has a considerable amount of bias. Try again.

I don't want this to turn into a slanging match - so thread closed.

I also agree, Kevin.

Having problems is one thing.

Having slanging/slagging matches against either products or other members is not to be tolerated.
