By the end of the lease i will return my Forester and i will not miss it...
Complete disappointment of interior build quality...
While car has amazing driving and handling and off road abilities i have 0 satisfaction of build quality...
--------------------------------
22,000 ( 1 year and 10 months) :
Noisy overall (wind , engine)
Rattle from roof ceiling (between roof and inside cover)
Lots of plastic loose and making noise
Emergency brake loose
Rear door making noise if turning (turn with rear door open = no noise , i put oil on bottom plastic of rear door noise is gone)
Seat not comfortable at all for longer than 2 hours drive
Oil on the engine (area close to sparks)
------------------------------

Cant wait for my lease term to be ended , and never Subaru again

If you want better build quality and a quieter ride, but with out loosing the handling and off-road ability, then you're going to have to spend a lot more then Forester money.

What were you looking at replacing the Forester with?

Its a shame you've had a bad experience, IMO its not just Subaru that have lost the plot in the last few years. Many traditionally solid well built makes have become more plasticy with poorer quality. Pretty much all cars are now much more complicated esp with their electronics, so reliability isnt what it used to be either

That's a real shame tempo!
Shame on Subaru quality...i just said my opinion
I am not blindfolded Subaru fan and never was
While off road capabilities are amazing for crossover , all other stuff in this car just cheap crap ... I am leasing stupid econobox Elantra 2013 , and compare to Forester this Elantra has rock solid build quality , so who should to be ashamed ? Me ? For what? For demanding better quality?
We all have our priorities , so mine is not ending in off road i still do mind some on-road comfort...
I am adding liter of oil every 1500 miles in f...king 22,000 miles car...and instead of solving a problem they put notice in handbook "its normal" ...yeaa...its normal for 10 years Pontiac and for new Subarus...
===============================
BTW 2002 Subaru Outback LLBean i once drove i was amazed by interior quality and that's why i bought Subaru Forester , becuase i was stupid enougth to think that modern Subaru still building good cars , but they building good outdoors transportation tools , but not cars

I think you misunderstood my intent which is the same as others here i.e. "Its a shame you've had a bad experience" - not that you should be ashamed of anything.

Hyundai have surprised me in the last decade and made some pretty good cars, When my foz was off the road i borrowed a 2012 hyundai accent hatch. Besides being a little plasticy (remembering this was still only a $12,000 car) the build quality was excellent, besides that for a 1.6ltr it was surprisingly fast, torquey and has excellent handling. Plant your foot at 100 and it'd still accelerate even on a climb

I hope hyundai continue this sort of built quality, I'd consider a modern hyundai as a daily run about.

But at the end of the day I wouldn't buy a modern forester either, i just find them uncomfortable and harsh riding. You might really enjoy the elantra as a round about, and at the end of the day lets face it not everyone spends more time on the dirt than the black top.

there isn't an offroad crossover in production i'd buy atm

sport auto series II sg turbo i would agree :raz:

I do not know much about Forester, but build quality is hardly a problem with the Outback. Is that a common issue with Foresters? The Forester has always been the unpretentious work horse in the line up. The seat comfort disparity is often cited in OB-Forester comparisons.

I agree with you, however, that vehicle capability is not an excuse for poor fit and finish.

At the same time, if one regularly takes a vehicle off-pavement, one should expect short-lasting, and sometimes not-so-short lasting squeaks and sounds of all sorts. Dirt does get into the closing door/rear gate mechanisms. Some noise and discomfort come with the off-pavement/off-road territory.

EDIT: What is the closest equivalent? X-Terra Pro? Or the new Cherokee? The X-Terra Pro or whatever they call it is a true off-roader based on another lower-end vehicle. It may be better but I would not take it for granted. A properly optioned Cherokee is also more capable than any Subaru, but it is too new to know about its quality--and Jeep hardly gets the benefit of the doubt.

My 2 c

Hyundai are replicating the growth path taken by Nissan & Honda IMO.
It remains to be seen if they can keep on increasing the quality whilst keeping the price in check some what.

No, the thread was started on a Wednesday!
