carljwnc's Job BS Thread

One more day!!! Quite a few folks have come and gone over the last year that I've been there, I'm the only one to have given and served out a two week notice.

Escher, maybe you need to bring one of those Forester diesels back with you.:)

The thought crossed my mind! Would be easy enough to import one to Senegal with diplomatic status. But unless the Boxer Diesel has been introduced to the US by the time we get back, registering it Stateside would be a no-go, unfortunately. Otherwise, I'd probably be bringing back our Land Cruiser/Prado and/or the X-trail as well.

Congratulations again, Carl! I firmly believe in staying above board and playing by the rules with employment matters. Burning bridges is rarely a good choice. Hope you enjoyed your X-mas all the more, and have a Happy New Year with the new work!

Some random :censored: I've been working on at work...

Cable clamps, extra fancy, deluxe style.

The part on the left is the fixture I had to make to hold the actual parts i was making on the right for their final operations. Drilling and tapping two holes into the center hole at a 90deg. angle, then broaching a keyway centered between those two holes.

Finished parts, socket head cap screws added for 'ear' effect, they will actually have set screws in the holes.

I'm having fun!!! Not really machining too much and I can't really post pictures of some of the cooler assemblies I do, but things are going great and I'm really enjoying being back working for this company. Talk about a big attitude adjustment, as a whole my life is 100% better.:Bacon:I'm even going to give it a bacon dance!!! And now I can afford new toys, like this...

Thanks guys!!!

Yes, this does make the wife happier too, she doesn't worry so much about me getting shot at work, and I was able to take her and our little girl out to dinner last night. All this after 'breaking in' my new yard work wagon. Much needed work done preparing our yard for the upcoming spring, that makes the wife happy too. And my son and his friend that was over were big helps as well...

Cool little box I made, a 'servo controller box' probably sits in a machine where it's exposed to coolant. Fun to make.:)

Machine I've been working on for the past couple of months, still not done, but most of my part is then it goes to electrical. I can't say I've built the whole thing, but I've done 75-80% of it up to this point. This one is headed to some strange foreign land 'Os-trail-ya' I think is the name of the place.:iconwink:

a 20hp grinding motor! That thing is a beast. I like how you built it with the fork inserts, just so ya can move the dern thing around! Can't imagine how much that is costing someone, then the shipping of it to Australia.

20hp is the smaller motor, they are usually spec'd with a 30hp. I believe this is a $3-500,000 machine and what you don't see is the 15' bar feeder that is going with it. I'll have ask what it costs to ship some of these machines, also someone usually goes with it for setup, could be part of my job at some point in time.:)

Good stuff, Carl!

FYI, I quit my job too. March 31st was my last day after seven years at the same company (with three different owners). Started a new gig with the US State Department at the embassy here. So far so good. Even though I'll miss the flexibility of working from home and insanely flexible hours, it's great to work with people in an office again, and be out and about several days a week. No regrets!

Very nice work mate :iconwink:
Did you make them out of that 50lbs, 304 Stainless steel piece that you had ?

Thanks Kevin & mr turbo!!!

No, they are cold rolled steel, in the first pic just below my scale you can see the piece of bar stock they were made from. Over the years, I've made an awful lot of knobs for various things, something I always enjoy making.:)

Gorgeous widgets, Carl! There's nothing like a knob machined from solid metal!

It doesn't matter whether it's steel or aluminum! Or Titanium, for that matter. And doesn't matter whether it's for a car, a radio, a sewing machine, or some other random device...

That looks really cool :)
Put it in some water, add a little colour & it almost looks like corel :raz:
