I finally found a job that I was hoping to stay at for the rest of my working life, I've been there for almost a year now. Due to the current state of the world economy, I (along with five others) was let go this Friday. I'm not giving up hope, I'm on the recall list if/when things turn around, just hope it's sooner rather than later.

If anyone out there needs a precision grinding machine for grinding drills, taps, or saw blades please contact Normac Inc. Might just save my job!:iconwink: I know everyone out there needs such a machine.

I hope I'm the only one who has fallen victim to such actions, but be ready, stash some cash and be ready for a bit of a vacation. Things are not good here in the US and it may be sometime before I can find another job.

Sorry to hear that carljwnc. Hope you find something really soon.

Regards
Mr Turbo

Bugger Carl - that's no good at all. :shake:

Wishing you the best for your job search!

Thanks Guys!!!

First, the unemployment office, then a week of slacking, then I'll start looking for work. I may just try to find something temporary in hopes that my job comes available again.

I don't know if you remember, but on the 'old' board I had a thread going where I went through something like ten jobs. I was really thinking I was done with all that....

Sorry to hear that Carl. I know the feeling. I have had about 6 jobs in the last year and a bit. Mostly casual, with no real idea of how long each will last.

But a man of many talents such as youself will find something again soon.

Beigewagon.

There but for the grace of God go I- or anyone. All the best

Truly sorry to hear that mate. these really are uncertain and scary times for eveyone. A mate of mine just had 20 of his work mates let go over the last 2 months and the construction industry over here has dropped quite badly. anyway good luck with the search

Been poking my nose around and it's really dismal out there. To fulfill my unemployment obligation I have to apply for two jobs a week. There is nothing out there in my field to even apply for. With more and more places shutting down or laying folks off, if a job does become available there are going to be probably hundreds of people trying to get it. I'll still keep looking, but I'm also going to try and enjoy my time off too....

I know how you feel- I have been down that road many years ago. I looked further afield- and now days I wondered why I did not make the change sooner. One door closes, another door opens. All the best and never lose hope.

Sorry to hear that Carl. I know how you feel though. After having a job i could have kept forever and quitting to move back to the Mid North Coast of NSW where i wanted to be i soon realised that a job wpuld be rather hard to get. Bunnings had 60 jobs going for their new store at Taree and had over 1,100 applications!!!
The workforce of Taree is only around 18,000. The interview process was pretty pathetic, HR gone mad and had to play kiddie games.
Generally i tend to find something and have learnt to do stuff that seems to not have any meaning at the time.
A fellow came to the unit to fit some new verticals for the owner and i had a chat to him and gave him my resume' and asked if he could read it as he was in business and someone might need a worker sometime...blah.blah.
He rang me back the same day and said his mum, the boss, had read it and wanted to see if i could come in to see her and now i at least have a casual job. It's a start.
Keep smiling , enjoy your free time and MAKE something happen.

Hi Silver,

Not quite sure I understand. WIll you be working at the new Bunnings Taree warehouse or did someone else ofer you a job?

Well I certainly am enjoying my time off. I do have a lead on a company that might be able to use both my prominent skills, bicycles and machining.:bcool: Working on that resume as we speak.

The job market seems to be looking a bit better the last week or so, problem is, you've got hundreds of people applying for the same job. Things will work out, hopefully for the better. It's looking pretty grim at my old company and I fear they may not make it. I went in there last week and they had laid off four of the higher-up's ie. the big pay-checks.

Rally. No I didn't get the job with Bunnings. They didn't even consider my retail experience, the interview was pathetic and consisted of looking at a slide and saying what you saw in it. They needed people to be a 'team member'. This is Ok, but most people are 'team members' by nature but it is a rare person that gets on with everyone.
What i meant by my post was that i understand what Carl is feeling as i basically had a job for life up north and now have to struggle away to find something to pay the bills. I'll get there, i always do.
I still have lots of trips to do so I HAVE to get something.
I always approach things with the view that being in an uncomfortable situation forces you to do something about it and often the end result is surprising.:)

Finally!!! I at least scored an interview :woohoo:!!! I think I'm really a bit over qualified, the position is for a machine operator that puts holes in tent poles, but it's for a very well established local company that has been around for along time Diamond Brand.

I've also got a short term position filling in for someone going on vacation at my favorite bike shop.

Things are looking up!!!:monkeydance:

Thats great news Carl. :)
Good luck with the interview mate, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Regards
Mr Turbo
