Nutha NZ road safety ad.

I do hear what you are saying re radar and gps

<
We have plenty of "nice little earners", where the speed limits change seemingly arbitrarily for the same stretch of road and conditions.

<
Yes it is about Time Crime in and with a motor vehicle be classed like any other
crime and instead of fines

Jail and the Death penalty are much better options - IMHO
<
stripping away the politically correct BS and exposing the humbug for what it mostly is.
>

Use and Miss Use of a Motor Vehicle needs to be legislated the same as
miss use of a Firearm or a Knife or any other weapon

Motorists and the Car industry are pandered to the world over

?

The road to ruin..

Is the road you are sharing

As always the "Surviving Victims" of "Road Crime" will have no voice
or be listened to when it comes to "sentencing"

because as we all know people are getting away with Murder on the Road
again and again

and they find excuse after excuse after excuse inaccurate gps radar etc etc etc

What do we say or do for these people?

Dash Cam really shows beyond a reasonable doubt
how bad it really is out there

Not sure we are too pampered, at least in terms of what we pay for what we get. Fuel taxes/excise/GST etc revenue is huge. If we use the User Pays principle, we'd have the best road network in the world. Unfortunately , with the motorist, they pay once at the bowser, once for rego, and a third time with tollways. And I guess a fouth would be speed cameras. I think shafted would be a more appropriate term. As proof, look no further than Bells Line of Rd, Princes Hwy, Newell Hwy, Gt Western Hwy, Pacific Hwy, New England Hwy, Bruxner Hwy- and that's not including the Sydney metro area. Imagine the lives that would be saved if these goat tracks were to world standard. No, that's a goverment responsibility. Easier to blame the motorists for government failings.

+1 but its worse than that. We pay several levels of excise, duty AND GST at the bowser. Totally shafted!

Gidday all.
Havn't bought anything yet RB, have been distracted by other things.
Just found out that The Macquarie group now own or control the speed cameras in Victoria and possibly other states, is this true?
Did a quick trip up to Cairns and back [Wed-Fri, 3400 klms] to pick up a trailer load of QLD beech [300/400kg] for the build in my shed.
Sat on 98kph up and back towing 8x5 trailer with 2mtre drawbar extension [best thing since black jelly beans].
My 98 Foz with 350k on the clock performed perfectly, 10l/100k empty, 11l/100k loaded.
Mostly well behaved traffic except for usual tailgating and iffy overtaking manouvres.
Truckies very well behaved and showed appreciation [flash, flash] when helped to get past.
Camry owning devotee mate was extremely impressed with older Forester with so many k's on it just 'doing the job', no fuss.
He is now looking for Series 1 SG for simple touring vehicle. "Come on Subaru Australia, I want acknowledgment for how many people I've turned on to Forester's". A very big discount on a quality series 2 SG would suffice.
regards to all.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the roll toll figures in the NT. I understand they are going back to unrestricted speeds. They used to have the highest per capita deaths on the roads of any state/territory in Australia. I bet it will rise again.
My thoughts are that speed in conjunction with Australias' poor driver training and generally rubbish drivers would be a factor in a lot of deaths.
My understanding is that speed, alcohol and tiredness are the top 3 factors in deaths on the road.
I read from that these are FACTORS in the deaths and not necessarily the main cause.
Anyway...if I have a crash I hope I'm going slow and not the speed I was doing over the top of the Snowys on the way home from Wagga in November!! Probably shouldn't say that, should I!!

Dont forget bad roads. In Oz we have some very badly maintained roads :(:shake:

The funny thing about speed is that its a factor in ALL accidents! You cant have an accident if all the involved vehicles are stationary :rotfl:

Speed as a factor is virtually a compulsory item on the police report. This provides ammunition to allow governments to put more speed cameras out there, which of course raise more revenue. It allows them to put pressure on the police to "target speed"...read as raising more revenue :puke:

How many times have you been driving towards an intersection with a known red light/ speed camera & you spend more time watching your speedo than the road & what other idiot drivers are doing. How is this increasing safety?

If they were serious about reducing the road toll (more propaganda as more than twice as many people die per year from surgical error than on the road), then they would remove speed cameras & instead focus on a high police presence. Nothing makes drivers behave better, not just speed, than seeing a high vis police car! :monkeydance:

Another point..."speed" doesnt kill. Excess speed does...not driving to the conditions as seen in that Landcruiser rollover video.

End rant... :rotfl:

Yes it will be interesting to see what the figures are in 12 mths time once the trial's over.
One thing I did notice, was that more people have died since the speed limit was introduced.

https://news.ninemsn.com.au/nationa...d-limit-trials-to-begin-in-northern-territory

Here is an extract from that news article.

"While the Northern Territory once had open speed limits they were scrapped in 2007 and replaced with a 130km/h limit in return for an increase in commonwealth funding. However, from that time until 2012, more people died on Northern Territory roads than in the six years before the change."

^ & ^^

When Joan Kirner dropped the speed limit on the Westgate bridge because " ... the death toll had doubled in the previous year ... ", she somehow forgot to mention that it went from one to two ...

When the Vic Gov changed a whole lot of areas around schools from {whatever} to 40 Km/h, the number of kids killed or injured in these areas went up the following year ... Meanwhile, it turned the Nepean Highway into a parking lot at the morning peak all the way back to Cummins Rd (about 15 kms from the CBD), because of one school crossing in St Kilda, about 2-3 kms from the CBD.

One of the best of these was on Whitehorse road, where there was a pedestrian flyover, and six foot netting fences on both sides of the road. Bringing all the traffic to a screaming halt was a bit counter-productive ...

I am totally in favour of making our roads as safe as possible for motorists, pedestrians, children, etc.

HOWEVER, this is not helped by telling kids "they got rights", and failing to educate them about the extreme dangers of being hit by a motor car ... A normal car travelling at around 60 km/h has much the same hitting power as a 600 Nitro Express rifle at the muzzle (an "elephant gun" for the uninitiated).

Same goes for cyclists who want to play dodgems with cars and trucks; or the ones who wear black/dark clothes with no lights on rainy nights or just at night, then abuse you for telling them that they are all but invisible ...
