Programming 99 Outback keyless entry to new key?

Geoff, maybe a locksmith can diagnose what's wrong with it?

The transponder/immobiliser system does not need a battery to function.

I had a chipped key made for mine (about $125) and a normal (unlock the door only) key cut for another $10 or so.

Thanks mate ... yes, a locksmith will be the next port of call: will let you know what eventuates.
It's not at all critical, though, as we still have one fully functioning unit - only looking to have a back-up unit "just in case"...

Happy to report all is good now ... the "new" battery was in fact a dud (well, not quite up to scratch, anyway). Did the join-the-wires-together-press & hold the lock button-press twice the remote's lock button thingamie trick and ... YEAH! It DOES work!

Very good to hear, Geoff.

I guess the moral of this story is to check the "new" battery properly before engaging in a potentially risky procedure - like re-programming a key ...

A decent multimeter is like a decent financial calculator; worth its weight in gold.
