Dedman’s $100 forester snorkel build

I redid the plumbing on my snorkel today so there is now room for a second battery for when I get a fridge. The new pipe work is super neat and high flow and consists of a 22.5 degree elbow, 2 x 90 degree elbows, a little bit of connecting pipe, the bit of rubber tube that came with the snorkel kit as well as the 2 screw clamps.

Also did a pressure test on the snorkel and I’m happy to say it is completely sealed. Now I am confident that the engine can run under water.

A interesting side effect of the new plumbing is that the snorkel acts as a massive resonator for the engine when accelerating hard.
When cruising its super quiet but as soon as you burry your foot in the carpet it begins to make an ungodly sound, 2-3k rpm its not to loud sounds like your average car that has the exhaust modified 3-4k it really sounds like there is some kind of wild animal under the bonnet and above 4k its just pure awesome. Not sure how loud it is from outside the car but in the drivers seat it just brilliant.

I am so happy with how it has turned out, very professional looking and now I have room to mount a 100ah or so battery for the fridge =)

Love the sound of induction, looks good as well. Don't skimp on the battery isolator when you get around to getting one. Dont want to start an engine bay fire or loose being able to power the fridge out bush.

Awesome! I've been wanting to do the exact same thing in mine and thinking that spot would be perfect for a second battery.
