Lightbar + Worklights

Ha, didn't notice that word, just thought it said shockproof!

Lights arrived today! Was very impressed with the quality of the lightbar ($150) and the cree worklight ($50) which feel very solidly constructed. The other light I got ($12) to put in the boot is obviously not as quality as the others but I reckon it will do it's job. Everything came packaged well with heaps of wrapping/foam stuff.

My mate got his lightbar + reverse worklights last week and I helped him fit them up to his 4WD. He'd already done the wiring ahead of time so they were up and running in no time and we got to see how well they performed. We were both impressed with the lightbar. Did a quick drive down some dirt roads and coupled with his spotties they were awesome! Provided some nice white light and had a good amount of spread out to the sides while the spotties threw light at a distance. Worked very nicely together.

I was even more impressed with the new reverse lights which we replaced with the old ones (which were still super bright). These were much better and threw a cleaner/whiter looking light much farther too. Also didn't drain the battery as much.

So hoping to get everything installed with the help of my mate when he has the time. Will be good to watch and learn too for future reference.

Didn't get any photos of his 4WD with the lights on that night but will put up a few pictures of my lights in the meantime. Will put more up when they go on the car.

It does look sweet mounted up on the roof, but you might get glare off the bonnet...

They do look good indeed :)
Will be great to see the pics of them once they're fitted :)

Ok, worked on fitting the two worklights last night, couldn't do the lightbar as we didn't have a relay handy. It took quite awhile but worth it in the end I think. I bought some switches from Super Cheap, 2 x $8 and 1 x $5. Mates work supplied all the tools + bits/wiring for free so we got to it.

Installed the rear LED light first in the boot along with a switch which is nicely tucked away but easy to reach. Had to take off all plastic panels to run the wiring to it but the hardest part was getting the wires through the hole from the boot door to inside the back brake light cavity where the wires were spliced into the wires which feed the original boot light.

Next was the Cree LED worklight which is super bright! Drilled a hole in the ROLA roof bar, then stuck the bolt through and stuck the nut on the end. Then ran the wiring down the boot sill, underneath the brake light cover and into the cavity where all the wires are. Cut out a rectangle for the switch to sit in the carpet interior - probably the hardest part to do. Took awhile to figure out where to put the switch but in the end it was worth it. After cutting a rough hole, had to file away at it, until the switch sat nice and tight. Then it was simply a matter of doing the wiring. One problem we had was mounting the light on the bar. The bolt wasn't long enough so we had to take off the bits which allowed you to rotate the light to get that extra length. Just means I can't adjust the light much.

Decided to put the lightbar up on the front ROLA bar. Tested it out one night, and there's no glare at all on the bonnet and the light seems more spread out from the drivers seat than if it's mounted on the nudge bar. That leaves room for a pair of spotties then! Hopefully do the lightbar next week.

Will put some pictures up today/tonight.

Couple until tonight...

Well done Sarge98 & great write up too mate

Looking forward to seeing some pics of them in action

Thanks MT. Will be great to see everything done and finished, but that's not to say I'm not enjoying the learning process, I kind of like all this modification business!

I can see I should have bought two of the cree worklights, one mounted on each side of the car, so after fitting the lightbar, I will take care of that.

Can't wait till the lightbars up!!

Keep us updated with more "action pics". Looks great so far!

Only thing I though looking at it, is that I would've installed the switch higher. Seems like with the trunk full if stuff it might be hard to reach it.

Everything else looks awesome. Hell, I might get some inspiration off you :P

Cheers guys. Will add more pictures soon, but at the moment can't be stuffed going out at night cause it's too cold!

I did think about having a full boot load Fly, good point, and looking back I probably would have put the switch where the other one is. When we fit the lightbar up next week, going to add another switch up front near the steering wheel so I can switch the light on from there too!

Lightbar put on last night! It has really changed the appearance of the car and I'm still trying to decide whether I like it... Still no pictures but will grab some Thursday night.

My minds made up whether it was worth the money though! Makes a massive difference whilst driving and there is a great amount of light off to the sides which is exactly what I was after. The only minor issue is some wind resistance which creates a high-frequency whistling sound. However, after driving around last night, I found it disappeared above 60km/h and couldn't be heard until you dropped back below 60. The sound isn't outrageously loud, it actually reminds me of driving in my mates turbo diesel except the whistle is constant, and is loudest when braking I think.

Thinking of buying a HID headlight kit off ebay and converting the headlights as the light output is terrible and that's with the headlight covers cleaned of that film.

Anyway, photos coming soon...

how is the light bar holding up? im looking at adding some lights to help the poor hi beam on the jimny.

cant decide between the narva 225 combination set or a LED light bar. Iron man have just released theres a 90watt 30inch light bar for $330 which is the same rice as the narva's 225's

BUT if your $130 lightbar is the goods and hasn't leaked or falling apart i might be able to afford both..

EDIT: is this the light bar you have? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/24INCH-...=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d08e22d94

Are the Narvas HID? I wouldnt go halogen, they're old technology & too far behind in terms of light output & current draw. I love lightbars :lildevil: would love to get one myself to go with my HIDs (when I get around to fitting them :()

Not sure if thats the one Sarge has but its on my watch list, just trying to save up the rice lol

AFAIK the adavantage of lightbars is their "fill"...they fill the road ahead with a broad spread of light with less shadowing...more like natural light. Single point driving lights, even spread beams, throw more shadows which make it harder to see. The disadvantage is they dont throw the light as far, so the best setup IMO is HID driving lights with a lightbar.

Personally, I dont really like spot beams...who needs to see 400m ahead lol :iconwink: I need to see a few hundred metres ahead but mostly out to the side up ahead so I get warning of wildlife. Spot beams are also pretty useless on windy roads.

The best lights I have ever seen were a pair of Cibie Super Oscar spread beams with 125W bulbs. They really lit up the road a LONG way ahead plus way out to the side

Still haven't got any photos yet guys, sorry, been too busy camping and fishing.

Just come back from a camping trip down to Dwellingup and it's endured a rough few days of rutted gravel roads at speed, lots of mud and dust and heavy rain etc. Gave it a quick hose and wipe over today to get all the crap off (plus insects) and it's good as new! So I guess that's proof enough for me. My mate also came along with his 4WD (fitted with the same lightbar) and he was punching through bushes with his bullbar - the lightbar was copping a fair bit, but it came out fine.

Yes. Looks like the price has dropped though.
