Well, after watching my mate wiring up spotties for another mate, we got talking about lightbars. I had recently been looking at buying one and mounting it up onto the factory rola roof bars. After mentioning I was looking at buying one, he said he had bought a 24" lightbar the day before from ebay for $150!

Turns out that it is good quality - cree LED lights, waterproof, dustproof, shakeproof and overall good quality. Comes from over in Queensland too with free postage.

So I thought instead of paying more than double that price for other lightbars I had previously been looking at, I might as well give it a go. My mates going to make up a bracket for me to sit behind the numberplate which the 24" lightbar will sit on.

Just thought I would share as it's a pretty cheap option for what hopefully will be a good product giving good light output. Also going to order 2 x 27W flood worklights which are built with the same quality. $50 including postage. Will mount them to the rear rola roof bar, just drill some holes through (hopefully) and can light them up when we go out fishing on beaches.

Here's the link to the worklights if anyone's interested - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2PCS-27...=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4cfe9a7ff4

Awesome! Can't wait to see this. I just bought some lighthouse 170's for my 20th b day last week. I considered a light bar but they don't produce the distance like spotties. .

Let us know about the work lights, I've been looking for a set too!

Dont think these are the ones as it doesnt say they're Cree & its from Melb. Could you pls post a link to the light bar you got?

Lightforce Strikers 170's?? If so, yeah they look good and I want to get a pair. I had the idea that you could mount some spotties in the middlfe of the 24" bracket and then mount the lightbar underneath as they would attach to the ends of the bracket and not interfere with the spotties. But then the lightbar would cover up your numberplate...

Sure.

Hey NL, yep that's the one, but looks like I've got confused with another lightbar sunyeeAU is selling which is cree, so these ones aren't. But their still water/dust/shock proof and are virtually the same as the cree 20" lightbar so I'm still going to go ahead and buy it this weekend along with the worklights.

My mates got the 210mm lightforce genesis HID combo lights on his navara, I have a 10" BJD led light bar. both are great in different ways. His has much better throw. mine has much better fill and is much much better off road. LED light bars seem to create really full light with very little shadowing. his are much better on the highway at night.

After watching many dvd's seeing the 4WD's using their light bars at night through the bush, I knew I wanted one!

I realise they are not meant to be spotlights, and buying one for the spread you mentioned biesel. I can see many uses for a light bar!

Good to hear your thoughts on one.

Exactly what I want for offroad, also onroad in areas where kangaroos are a concern, also tight twisty roads

Yep I agree, be good for both! I am particularly buying it for roos as I have had more than my fair share of close calls with these guys out on the roads. Having no bullbar I would like as much notice as possible that there is one around.

The lightbar seems to have a much much wider angel as well this will help with spotting animals to the side. IMO anyway. Best of both worlds a 30inch light bar across the roof and some spot lights on the front. :).

I would suggest that you also invest in a pair of the sonic animal whistles for $5-7 from any auto store.

I have these on all my subarus and have used these since 2003 after my last meeting with an over sized roo stopped me.
They don't work for wombats though :(

I can vouch for the whistles... they are very effective! Never seen any roos up here in Canada for as long as I've had them on my car (that means about 20 years since my parents also had them when I traveled with them in their Westfalia). That must mean something!

With that said, they are totally useless for moose and deer. And I mean totally.

I have a set on my Forry. Great value too I say :iconwink:
And so far, so good.....touch wood

Mr Turbo

Mine keep getting torn off by branches but so far no roos :iconwink:

Reminds me, I grabbed a small bit of wood from the Bullock Link Tr (must be lucky cos we made it out lol) & cut off a small piece to stick on the dash for exactly this purpose!:lol:

Before I got them I hit 3 kangaroos and one wild dog. I have had them for 10 years now and have seen many roos and dogs turn and go back into the bush rather than jump on the road.

As I said they are not any good with wombats. Hit one near Tallarook with the left front wheel and nearly rolled the Pajero some years back. Very scary.

You need a good set of driving lights with big reflectors if you drive on country roads. One spread beam and one spot. I am currently looking at the IPF 800 or 900 Extreme Sport series.

Never seen these before, will look into them thanks.
