GoPro

That would do me. I'm probably not even going to take movies.
I had 5 replies and 2 text messages about the GoPro and think it is sold. Just waiting to organise a deposit.

The pictures i post here are taken with an Olympus FE240 which is only 7.1mgp and has always worked well. It's about 5-6 years old and was dearer than the new TG2 when i got it. I understand the new TG2 is much better than the last version and is more solid in the case than just about anything around. It will do but i probably should look at a sounder for the boat.....in fact i really plan not to spend much money at all for the rest of the year. I need to get my credit card under control and fix up all my finances for next year so i can roam around a bit more.
I will more than likely use this place for a base but want to do a few trips with the boat.
I'll need to keep my buying impluses under control for a bit!!

The above camera i used is the Tough TG310 bottom of the range, i think they are now obsolete but i got mine for $100 around xmas with a 32gig card and a leather pouch for it.

I know what you mean about pulling in the spending a bit, every time i look there is something i want for detecting or camping or photography or movie making, or a combination of the above

....my next purchase as a POV camera will be the a Contour roam +2...

I have the original Contour Roam and would be very hesitant to buy another Contour. Video itself is OK but audio is essentially non existant. The mic is inside the case to ensure waterproofness but that means it's sealed away from sound. Very loud sounds right next to the camera come out barely audible and forget about recording sounds more than a metre away or anything of a normal volume.

I had it mounted on one of my rifles briefly and it barely even picked up the shots and then fell off after about 3 shots as the picatinny mount is useless and can't handle the recoil.

Similarly the surface mount doesn't work well or at all as a windscreen mount and to top it off support from them is generally non existant as well.

On the plus side I really like the form factor which is why I bought it in the first place so if you want something purely for video without audio, don't use their mounts (I use a RAM mount for the windscreen with it now) then they could be worth looking at otherwise I'd say give them a miss.

I cant remember why but my son was not happy with his Contour and said he would get a GoPro if he got a new one.
My first sale fell through but i had the phone number of someone else who wants it for skydiving and he said he will take it. Better for me as he didn't haggle about price.
It appears there are some really excellant compact cameras on the market now. Sony is making a really good one and Nikon has some great stuff around. I think Sony is really trying to get their act together as the reports on their new phone are also very good.
ANYWAY....i'll (try) and keep focused and finish the casting deck on the boat and really want to get away next year for at least 2 longer trips and maybe more. 5 months in total would be good.
That metal detecting looks like fun but i am not buying a $5,000 detector and this stage....probably not at any stage...fishing is dear enough.

The one i use most weekends a Garrett AT Pro U.S cost me $500, the you bewt relic hunter from minelab cost me $2600 and i love em both but i wouldnt spend 6k on a new gold detector unless i was up in the triangle every weekend. Last year the garrett paid for itself with $1 and $2 coins in 7 months. Not including gold rings and some relics worth some pretty coinage as well i soon had the money for the Minelab put away.

As for the contour roam i just want to sit it on the side of my headphones, for the audio i have other means, the bullet is another one i may look at.

Can't swap anything now...it's sold and i'm happy.
I hadn't thought of the payback with a detector. Maybe next year i might be able to join you on a trip to see how it's done...trouble is....i will be heading north with the boat.

I am a relic and pre decimal coin hunter, the goldies are just a bit of icing.
I am interested in gold detecting as well and have done a bit of that, once retired i will do more.

I am heading around the coast to Ulladulla next March and thats as far north as i will be going :)

That's only up the road a couple of 100ks. I reckon by March i should be on the Mid North Coast or thereabouts, all going well.

Thats not far from me either :raz: Just around the corner (about 200km's) you could say :iconwink:

Depending on this, that & the other & when it gets a little closer in time & provided it's ok with you, I might just pop down for the day to say hello :)

Regards
Mr Turbo

I am always up for a meet and greet

IF i am around we might br able to arrange a trip in the tinny or some such thing.
I worked in Newcastle in the early or maybe mid 80's. In Hunter St, for a NZ furniture company called Broadaxe Furniture. 2 Pommies ran the show. They went broke and still owe me money for unpaid wages...:poke:
