Body twist

Nacha - pretty sure that's the bar. If I remember tomorrow ill check the number stamped on mine.
I had the ally U channel welded to the bar. I filed a flat section into the bottom side of the whiteline bar so the U channel would seat nice, shaped it, drilled it and welded it.

Did some off roading down at Nowra on Saturday, going through some rutts i decided to test the rear tail gate. While i found it no more difficult to open/close. I did note that while travelling through the rutts that i could hear the door seals squirming around. Especially the rear door seals.

I think I'll definatly look at fitting some strut braces now, unfortunatly whiteline don't make a rear strut brace for the SH but some other brands do.

I think any wagon car is going to have alot of twist in it. Funny i never noticed the noise before now it annoys me thanks :P.

Maybe your tail gate problems are an alignment issue?

Yes possably, although I haven't looked under the car to make sure everything is tight.
I did take a hit in the back end a few years ago by a TF rodeo 2wd ute, wrote the poor kids ute off but forester only needed a new tow bar and bumper cover. I'm starting to wonder if this could be related. I cant see anything being bent out of aliment tho, the tow bar hardly had a dint in it, because I saw him coming and booted it up a driveway and only took a minimal hit as opposed to taking the full force by being stationary with my foot on the brake.
I might get my mate (he's the panel beater who repaired it) to take a look and see if anythings up...

lol :rotfl:

I think this will be more of an SF poss SG prob. Im sure your SH has an much improved chassis design so is much stiffer

That explains it...nice mod

ahh the old unibody twist, I delt with that for many years in my XJ when i get all twisted up.. i can not even open the back hatch.. you can always add underframe rail support.

I've looked at those under car braces that make for subarus. not sure if they impact ground clearnence though. Might cause a lot of NVH increase as well.

Well i never see any made for the Subarus but many companys make them for the Jeep XJ's because we like to abuse them off road.. my friends XJ was abused so much even with the frame rail support it started to split the uibody at the firewall... I know most of yall will not ever get that crazy with the Subi's but for what we do.. i figure it would work just fine.

@ NachaLuva - thats for an 07 so it wont fit an SH

Biesel, I'm a bit concerned about just how much ground clearance we would loose with those braces, it might make the 2" lift redundant?

it would be good to take a look at a pair in the flesh and see just how low they actually sit.

I'm still working on the 4 point rear strut tower brace, but I've got to be able to remove it and have it fit under the floor where the cargo blind is designed to go in the models without a full size spare...

I agree some of those braces *look as though they will cost ground cloearence. I've found a few other products i will post up latter when i get home.

If you google H brace, you see a wide variety, not all are the deep. I like the idea of a brace around the rear of the engine, not just to stiffen but also to protect & provide attachment points for a long sump/gearbox/exhaust guard.

I let the body twist to have more articulation !

Just a warning, reading the wrx forums people whom fit those H braces generally find they get a bit of vibration through the floor from the extra stiffness.

Yea that's not surprising, when I worked at Key Motors (Subaru and Mazda dealership) we had an MX5 come in that had a heap of DIY under body braces on it and coil overs, it was rock solid, could lift diagonally opposite wheels of the ground just by taking a gutter the wrong way.
