scooby's foz winch.

Everyone seems to be convinced that the front end of a Forester is not up to supporting winching force (I probably agree with this which is why i am planing to reinforce my frame significantly if i decide to mount a 9k on mine)
I do wonder though just how much force is applied to those front tie down points when we get snatched out after getting stuck in some thick mud? I guessing we probably dont really want to know....... but we use them and usually without a second thought.

Also the argument that you are more likely to damage your forester pulling out a heavier vehicle seems somewhat flawed to me because unless you are securing your tow bar to a tree or something you will just cause the forester to slide which will be less force than winching yourself out of a bog. Hell my 4k winch could make a forester slide easily on a sealed road.....

Keep posting your progress, im keen to see what the final product looks like

When i installed my Warn on my XJ i had to add some major unibody reinforcement to with stand the winch power.

update..

I acquired a 130amp alternator from a '08 Tribeca 3.6l H6 for $65.
Also a some harness w/connectors. Plus extra wire / fuse to wire directly to the battery .

Hence my reason for delay in fab..Another winch bumper retrofit . A toy ARB to a Loyale..

Photos coming..

Holy :censored: scooby
What happened ?

If thats a little mishap, I'd hate to see a big one

Glad to hear that you're alright & not hurt mate :)

Regards
Mr Turbo

Bugger. Was this before or after you got your winch done?

That pic of the forester being pulled out... It still looks like a new car almost... Really would have expected all the panels to be screwed, all the windows to be broken and roof to be caved in.... I feel quite a bit more safe doing crazy things in my car now

Glad to hear your ok though.

I hadn't done the winch install yet..Note: no way a 3,000 or 4000lb winch could do this much work..now most folks should understand my reason for a 9,000lb winch . We had two snatch blocks as well and about 6 straps.

The damage is much worse than it appears.. the rockers, all doors, hood, fenders, the hatch ..etc..roof.., the windshield, drivers window, left rear pass. window..all broken. It runs and drives perfect..

Bugger the picture had given me hope. Still shows that its one tough car though.

Yeah im pretty sold on the 9k. Going to start my instal in a few weeks

Holy smoking poop, Batman ...  :(

Thank goodness that you are OK.
That could have been very much nastier, very easily ...
How did it happen?

Bugger about your car though. Is it repairable? Is the frame bent, or just lots of cosmetic damage?

Thats terrible news mate :(:shake:

Glad you're OK, the lack of damage intruding into the cabin shows just how mega safe our lil Subies are :monkeydance:

Did you slide off on that snow bank? Looks pretty steeply angled...

Jeez...glad you're OK scooby!!!:)

Good luck with the Foz, no matter what you end up doing with it. Looks like it did a fine job of taking care of you. Keep us posted.

Crazy that both those mirrors are fully intact. Are they still working???

I love how they fold back...I've done that a few times offroad or while working on the car while in the garage. Sure are tough lil buggers

I think your Foz would make a great paddock basher :lildevil:
