Many moons ago I had a Lada Niva. A hi-lift jack came in very useful when stuck in mud - simply a case of jacking from a wooden/plastic base under the rear or front bumper and pushing the car to one side - keeping well clear of the jack and hoping the jack didn't hit the vehicle. Got away with it every time! (Fortunate.)
I bought the wheel lift accessory for use with the Foz, tried it once on a hard surface, and found it so fiddly and unstable it went on ebay the next day. Nowadays, if I go off road alone, I take a hand winch with me and assorted tow ropes, tree savers, D shackles etc. (I couldn't get my head around using the hi-lift as a winch.)
The hi-lift is not only gathering dust - it's pretty rusted up too!
