Injured Wildlife Care

Drom's Surgery

An update on Drom the koala...

A few days ago he had surgery on his broken arm to have a plate put in. Not a cheap surgery...many thanks to Beach St Vet for their considerable help & expertise

It wasnt all plain sailing though, he had a reaction to the anesthetic & stopped breathing on his own. 1 1/2 hrs later on a ventilator & they worked out how to revive him. Great job by Michelle from Animalia Wildlife Shelter & the vet staff not to give up on him, even as close as it was. He's recovering well now & enjoying his gum leaf smoothies haha :monkeydance:

He'll be in care for quite a while, then we get the joy of releasing him back into the wild to woo all those pretty girl koalas lol.

We also had a great release of a Nankeen Kestrel during the week:

Thats a great effort, not giving up on Drom (the koala) :raz: Well done
It sounds like he's a real fighter :)

Great to see the Kestrel being released back out in the wild too :)
In the 2nd pic it looks like he's saying a thank you aswell :iconwink:

Regards

I love birds, the 2 pics of the kestrel made my day Nachaluva! Seeing him fly off must have been a warm & fuzzy moment for you.

One wildlife story that is really bugging me at the moment is the looming mine expansion in Leard State Forest - which is mega koala habitat and will result in a koala mass extermination. I fear that the koala numbers are already so low that this could wipe them out.

Basically, I was alerted to this whole shemozzle by that fake ANZ media release stunt by Jonathan Moylan in the news a few weeks ago. So essentially, after the news had made him out to be a troublemaking, treehugging hippy I found out that he is actually an intelligent and brave young man fighting for an important cause.

Barry (the crook) O'Farrell made a liar out of himself when he recently approved the destruction of up to 75% of the Leard State Forest by Boggabri Coal, Whitehaven Coal and Idemitsu (Japan owned). He broke his pre-election promise that key agricultural land would be protected from mining and CSG activity and allowed it to go ahead. Now, as an example of how corrupt he is, he recently cut funding to the Environmental Defenders Office - a government department which was researching the destructive impacts of coal mining in forests. How frikkin' crooked is that?

Now the final word rests in Environment Minister Tony Burke's hands. He is due to make his decision on the 31st of this month.

I urge everyone who cares about Grassy Box Woodlands, koalas, possums, honeyeaters, flying foxes and bent-wing bats to write to Mr Burke to voice your opinion. There is a form on this page to do so:

Sign up and save Australia everyone (including our brothers in the USA).
