Hi guy's, have not posted anything for a while (work keeping me busy) but have been lurking in the background and checking out whats going on.

managed to convince the boss to let me have three weeks off in June/July and headed to Boulia (north west QLD)for the annual camel races.

took our time getting there did all the sites and camped in some great places.

if you havnt had a chance to check out this part of the country i would highly recomend it. we will be back in the future, even considered buying the post office in hugenden and semi-retireing.

short story the races were rained out but still had a great time relaxing and absorbing the local culture. had plenty of recovery demonstrations to watch from the very wet boggy conditions in the camp ground.

the first leg home was accross the chanel country between Boulia and Winton some of the best scenery. and favourite photo of the trip below VVV

the kids love the Bilby centre, we had to come back that night for the presentation but was worth it and it supports a good cause.

Great pics & report legman :)
And I would have to agree, judging by the pics, that the locals do seem kind of rowdy

Regards
Mr Turbo

lloyd jones weir camp ground (free) was chockers with grey nomads, we only just slipped in . plenty after us drove through and had to look elsewhere.

For our overseas friends - the dead tree in Barcaldine is the "Tree of knowledge"

Not just for our friends overseas...that was a piece of knowledge I have just gained :)

Nice pics, incl the camels. Not the spitting variety then? :rotfl:

PS: Bilbies are prob my fav animal on the planet! :monkeydance:

Thanks Kevin , also in Barcaldine is the workers centre, plenty to see and read, old buildings and machinery well worth a visit , you could spend all day here quite easily

these are Brolgas ( for our overseas mates )

did the Stockmans hall of fame and the QANTAS founders museum, not highlights of the trip for me. lots of people quite expensive, I am not sorry we went but would not go back. others might think different.

from Longreach we moved onto historical Winton. Where "Banjo" Patterson penned the words for Waltzing Matilda.

winton was dry, windy and dusty. we were jammed in between caravans right near the entrance of the park and every day came back to a campsite with an inch of dust covering every thing. you had to wash the dishes before you could use them.

that said it was still a great place, plenty to see and do and the people were warm and freindly. threr was even a film crew in town making a movie.
