thnx

sounds like tupperware full of marbles but provides an insanely economic and torquey donk. very happy with it!

It seems Subaru may have sorted out some of their early diesel. You certainly are kitting your Foz out well :lildevil:

Have you looked at the air intake position? It takes very little water to be sucked into your intake during a river crossing to hydrolock the engine. The splashing is spectacular but be careful...

Yeah alot of people complain about the lack of torque in the earlier engines all fixed with the my12 model thanks to a new turbo and new tune.

Going to stockton tomorrow should be interesting.

Let us know how the dunes are looking. Unfortunately driving on the sand dunes from Lavis Lane all the way up to Anna Bay is prohibited at the moment, as is camping.

Nice list of mods. Although I'm confused about the nudge bar. You're obviously putting together a decent off-road vehicle, and I think the odds of hitting a roo dead-center are pretty remote. I've been (un)fortunate enough to hit three over the years, and all have been on the corners, taking out the lights. A decent bull bar will offer some protection against that sort of thing, whereas a nudge bar is next to useless.

Also, did you have any issues fitting the sump guard to a late model vehicle? Need to re-drill the mounting holes? I'm not sure of the year, but I know some of the earlier ones won't fit my vehicle.

the sump guard went straight on, the nudge bar i like the look of and didnt want to mount the aerial on the bonnet, plus good driving lights are probably the next thing. i looked at the unibars but i read too many bad stories of them not being a firm enough mount for driving lights. went a nudge bar for these reasons. would love a bull bar for the better approach angle but they are very perminent. one still might be on the cards later on.

went the subaxtreme nudge as the ground clearence loss is minimal yet still gives the front bar some protection from bottuming out.

We were very concerned about that crossing, going across the firsst time was easier but this time it was nose first into the deep end. opped for more throttle to try and drive the water away from the nose a bit. the air intake is right above the radiator. really need to get a water blind for the car in future shame there are no snorkels available, i'd def buy one.

Yep i have to be even more careful being diesel 16:1 compression ratio and no throttle body to slow the water means bad news when water gets in.

Thats a sweet Forry you have there Biesel :raz:

Nice trip report & great pics too mate :)

Regards
Mr Turbo

Mr. Biesel that is a nice ride. Great photos too. Your entry into the water crossing made the ol' man sorta cringe--hydrolock and chewed-up radiators crossed ones mind at the sight. Please describe your 'water blind' idea for a Yank. El Pedorro

...really need to get a water blind for the car in future...

I use a small plastic tarp. A couple of elastic straps around the mirrors and underneath onto the tie-down points. Works perfectly.

You may also want to consider a fan switch and diff breathers if you're going to do a lot of deep water crossings.

La Tortuga already has very fresh and new fan switches, plus an ABS interrupt. I will add diff and transaxle breathers to the to-do list.... El Pedorro

Fan cut off switch are high on the priorty list along with some sort of switch to replace the button for the traction control. if it can be done, so off road it will stay off even when the car is stopped and started again.
