TR - Australia, corner country

Good points.

We've done 3 trips with a std hitch now and it's always worth lubing the ball regularly, keeping it capped when not in use and adjusting out any slack. We never have knocking.

The next hitch up in the design stakes is the Hyland hitch which is a cup for a std ball that allows more rotation. Bit like a uni joint from memory.

Bottom line as always is to drive to the conditions.

I'm doing a similar circuit in a couple of weeks - how did you get from Innamincka to Birdsville? Did you go via Cordillo Downs, or north past Haddon Corner? The HEMA maps show the Cordillo Road as a lesser route compared to Haddon Corner, but my research indicates it's a well used track - I'm undecided as to which way to go. I may make the call when I get there.

Making the final call when you get there may be imposed on you by the weather, road closures etc. anyway.

We went past Haddon Cnr. The lower section of the Cordillo Downs route had only opened that morning after rain; the upper section was still closed. We were also told by locals that the upper section was rough, loaded with gibber and prob. not a good choice for towing a CT even when open.

Good luck with your trip. It's fab country out there.
