Thunder blew up his 2.0 n/a foz

as the title states was driving home and my car blew up :(
i has filled up with petrol about 20km before hand and the car was servely lacking power and was surging. i thought is was the clutch so i thought i would just limp it home as i was on the highway when this happened. any how got to pentland hill near buccusmarsh for thoes in vic.
anyway going up the hill i noticed that it didnt feel like clutch slip so was getting very worried, now in fourth unable to do the speed limit i pulled over. poped the hood and it was idling like a pig. i needed to keep driving so i could over in a safer place so went about another 2km then all of sudden a lot of smoke behind me and a trail of oil . popped the bonnet oil every were, no power could take off at all to move the car any further so there it stays on the side of the highway not moving at inch with a trailer oil every were.
the car only has 165,000km on the clock i have always serviced regularly and didnt drive it hard, so i am very upset as you could imagine:madred:

BTW i think this tops taza blowing up his gearbox? :rotfl:

now have the task of getting it back which is 3.5hrs away FUN!

Bugger, Thunder ... :( :(

Sounds like some kind of gargantuan oil leak somewhere!!

Maybe there is a seriously blown head gasket (or two?).

DON'T try to tow it. You might wreck the diffs and gearbox as well.

Check out what it says in the Owner's Manual for your model as to how to move it without wrecking anything.

Towing my SG 5MT/DR is tricky and limited; and SWMBO's SH auto is a flat-bed truck job ...

Commiserations, mate.

Mate thats terrible news...esp considering there were no warning signs until just before it happened :(

With all the trouble you & Taza have had with Foresters I'm scared to take mine out of the drive!

^ sounds terminal!

Yes, very bad luck mate! I agree, maybe a piston and maybe it has gone through the block. Interference engines are a bugger when something lets go; just takes a timing belt to go and all hell breaks loose. Have you been near any deep water lately?

the only warning signs happened 5 mins before it happened when it was low on power. i wouldnt care to much if it a lot of ks or i didnt look after it!

like i said before i will diagnose the problem next week but not getting my hopes up for a cheapish fix

**** mate, that's not good to hear. I could get you a cheap engine if you want. No it's not mine....
I was looking,at one from a 99 foz but it won't bolt upton my gearbox as it's a 4bolt and mines 8.

My engine is getting changed in a few weeks too.

Sorry to hear about your car. Funnily enough there's been another subaru parked on the side of the road half way up the Pentlands, just out of Bacchus Marsh for more than a week now...

there is always at least one car up the pentlands.

well i got the car home today, it starts which makes it easy to get on and off the trailer. still unsure of the problem of the problem have the machanic coming some time this week in meantime i will be using the brumby

i had a quick look, looks like the oil was coming from the air intake, so i assume it could be the PVC issues or a piston issue? still a loud rattle while running

What's the oil level? Can you get a video of the nboise from the engine? It may not be all that major. The loss of power and smoke can be cause by lack of air(eg air filter drenched in oil), I havve seen this in first hand.

I can get you a 2.0l n/a for $200 in working condition. It won't fit my car..

oil level is about 1/2-3/4 full. i took out the air filter before and started the is loud rattle from some were. i hope its not fatal.

hmm perth is probably to far away for postage, plus dont have the money yet to fix the car

If your willing to try and swap the engtine yourself with help it could be done for under $500.

EDIT: This is how I am treating my engine. lol

Looks pretty evil, Thunder ... :(

At least it seems that the engines of our cars are removed and refitted (relatively) easily.

That was the problem with our Camry.
The cost of the remove/refit was horrendous!
Fixing the problem was (relatively) cheap, and the rest of the donk was in good to excellent condition.

Hope yours is easy to fix, and a reasonable price.
