Aussie Dual Range gearboxes

Dual range gearboxes won't be as strong as what you now have. And what you have now isn't all that strong to begin with. A US ORS member was after a D/R gearbox- I found one for $1200 second hand about a year ago. I believe a number of ORS members have used this company, such as Damo and Kevin- they can confirm that- with good results. What they charge for a gearbox I do not know, nor do I know if they sell outright gearboxes, as opposed to exchange. But if you do go with a D/R box, you'll need a matching rear diff

Yes that is correct
I have one of their hybrid gearboxes (5 speed MT) (not duel range) in my Forry (MY05 XT) & am very happy with it

They definitely can hook up to a turbo. Just be nice to it. Dumping the clutch is a big no no

Is the hybrid the gearbox with the very short 1st? that would be enough i guess :)

i currently run 295hp and 420nm at around 3000rpm so it should hold up to that... i´ll try to contact them for a price incl. shipping to austria :P i guess i should be sitting when they get back to me lol

I wouldn't say that it's shorter.
All the components have been treated so that they are stronger, have better syncros & better sliding hubs to allow for easier gear changes. Especially of 1st & 5th gears.

Yeah, I feel your pain- at least when driving the Forrie.

Yallahyimshi- you obviously have far more confidence in the D/R box than I do

Get an STI 6 speed and dump the clutch all day long. Different ratios are available

Do XT's come with 2 litre engines in Austria? Never mind. A mate of mine has a 6 speed with trick diffs in his 2.0 litre WRX with standard power/small turbo and it is a great combination. I have one in my car (my car has a fair bit power though) and it is just the best thing I ever did to it. In fact, if I had to have more grunt or better gearbox/diffs it would be the latter every time. It utterly transforms the car in to a magic car that does whatever you ask of it. And i don't have to worry about breaking anything. There is a video on here somewhere of me in it giving it heaps, or just check out my avatar

I would put a DR box behind a turbo anyday, of course with no more than 400Nm of torque though. Plus aslong as your not dropping the clutch or being rough it should be fine.
I did mange to blow up one though behind a 2.0l N/A much to everyones suprise  :surprised:

I think 4.444 final drive is the best way to get at least some of your gear reduction as it reduces the work done by everything ahead of it.

Does anyone know what the highest ratio first gear is available for the DCCD?

The DCCD is not the limiting factor in itself. You can install a DCCD into a gearbox that did not come with DCCD, as long as you keep a 5 speed DCCD with a 5 speed and a 6 speed with a 6 speed. You'll need the matching drop down gear at the back of the gearbox. There are also different ratio sets for both 5 and 6 speed gearboxes.

I'm not saying a D/R box won't live with a turbo- just that it is marginal and you will have to be gentle with it.

no dumping of the clutch? were the fun in that :rotfl:

Crikey! :monkeydance:

If my H6 can handle a dual range box, so can your turbo. Just don't go stupid on it and it won't blow up.

Lest we forget...the H6!

I think moderation is the key...If you dont go too hard on it the DR should be fine.

Then again, if you got a 6speed with 2nd-6th ratios the same as a 5 speed's 1st-5th, then added an extra low (lowest you can get) 1st gear, then wont that be the same as 1st gear Low in a DR 5sp?
