As if y'all haven't kept me busy enough lately, here's another project I've been working on. Well, the wife has been doing most of the paper work and what-not, and I have been working six days a week as much as possible to get the 'ol funding up.

Story is; our neighbor is selling his house (or at least trying, he's kind of asking way too much for it:rolleyes:), but he also owns the lot right next door to our house. If we didn't buy it, he was going to sell it off separately and who knows what might have happened with it. Best case, a nice house (or two) could be built on it. Worst case a mobile home (or three or four) could fit on it.:puke:

Anyway, Friday we did the closing and now we are .47 of an acre bigger.:woohoo:

Who could want a house or trailer blocking this.:iconwink:

Super stoked!!! Quite a bit more work, but the kids have their own soccer field, next year a nice garden, hopefully some kind of cool club house for the kids, and someday...maybe a nice work shop.

WARMEST CONGRATS to you all, Carl

Very nice, mate. I can just see a 40x60 foot workshop on there, off in an unused corner somewhere ... :iconwink:   .

Congrats carljwnc :woohoo:

Nice a workshop n garden would be sweet

Subaru rock crawling garden....lol

A workshop & garden would be very nice & a very real possibility

As for a Subi rock crawling area to play on, now that would be sweet :quitar:

Looks great! What dimensions? About 120' x 150'?

In Aus these days you would 'easily' get approval for 4 houses on a lot that size - unfortunately. Potentially 6 single house lots, it is getting ridiculous here. :(

Whelp, the garden will definitely be happening, but we're going to start it next year since we are a bit late in the season already and we need to do some proper planning.

The workshop is still somewhat of a pipe dream since paying for the lot itself is going to be a bit of a challenge.

Now, the rock crawling/off road race track is most likely going to happen in one form or another, however, it will be R/C sized. (my 12 year old son really wants a 'real' R/C vehicle, and so does his father:iconwink: just got to figure out what exactly)

Barry, I'm not sure of the exact measurements, I think you could get three houses on it squeezed in tight, but that would be it.

Gidday Carl

0.47 acres is approx 1,900m^.

Around most of Melbourne, that translates into 6 building blocks of 300m^ ...
Doesn't make for a very nice environment; but there you are.
It is what our political masters have decreed, in their infinite "wisdom" ...

Personally, I think that around 600m^ is a rational (mean = arithmetic average) size for suburban building blocks; with a mixture of sizes to provide some vestige of the irregularity that seems to stimulate our minds.

So you "prevented" about 12 trailers from going in there! Nice, Carl.

I hear you on paying for the land before building a shed. Bought a house last year. Was supposed to be a fixer-upper, and has turned out to be more of a tear-down. Ah, the joys (and burdens) of property ownership! :raw:

And I'm starting to think about an RC car for my son, too. Although since he's only four, it'll have to be on the slower side for now. Guess a rock-crawler may be a good way to go.

Hayden has probably burned through about 10 low end RC cars since he was about that age, he has always had a blast with them though.:) I think it's time to get the 'real deal' now.

That's great Carl!

Thanks Kevin!!! And everyone else too!!!

You got me thinking!

I used to have a Subaru Brat from Tamiya as a kid -- my very first Subaru! -- and was happy with the quality.

These days, we would need something that is not too fast, and can drive on our back lawn. (Tamiya's Brat only has rear wheel drive, unfortunately, unlike the original from Subaru.) So I figured that I would research what Tamiya is up to 20+ years later. Check out the Tamiya Toyota Land Cruiser 40 CR-01!

Isn't that thing a beauty? The kit with the unpainted body can be had for about $300 (and more) on eBay. All you'd have to add is a battery and Tx/Rx. Would be especially appropriate for you, since you've switched over to the Yota side.

Tamiya has a bunch of Subaru Impreza/WRX models on offer too! Although those have less ground clearance, and I could see them bottom out quickly in a less than golf-quality lawn. :raz:

That Land Cruiser is cool!!! I've been watching one of my FB friends build one up too. I'll have to look a little further into their web site when I've got some time. Bummer the BRAT isn't 4wd.

That Tamiya Land Cruiser with the CR-01 chassis is just too damn nice!

Researched it a bit more. It turns out that both the Cruiser and the Brat are 1/10 scale. You can buy a Brat body for about $25 on eBay. So I figure you could build the Land Cruiser CR-01 kit, and then swap the body for the Brat!

Oh, and look at this pair!

land envy! perhaps by 2015 i can have a patch of dirt and hopefully it will be as nice looking as that

Think you might have to move a little bit to get one as green.:iconwink: I know most of the country is in drought, but we have had so much rain that I haven't hardly been able to keep up with cutting the grass. Anybody need any hay???

Subaru rock crawling garden....

Awesome idea, I can see the mrs going for this one :P

Congrats Carl! That's usually the best way to ensure something you love stays the way it is. One of the Greens leaders, Bob Brown purchased a block of bushland in Tassie to stop it from being logged - almost sent him broke. That also started his passion for the environment politically from what I understand. Unfortunately I now find the Greens too full on now that they've got a grip on power. I think they've done themselves a massive dis-service for the long run.

Anyway, that tangent aside, once again Congratulations! I too can't wait to do something like this - but with an oldschool house :D

Cheers

Bennie

Thanks Bennie!!!

Yup, we've got the old school house right next door already, 1968, small but rock solid.
