Gentle Annie...Nailed! 23/5/12

Great trip report & pics guys :raz:

Sorry to hear about your Forry Matt :sadbanana:
By the look of the pics you were very lucky that you had your bull bar.

Apart from the damaged bar & guard, it looks like you had a great time :)

Looks like it was a great day!!! Quite the mud fest, but you conquered (not so) Gentle Annie.

Too bad about the damage, but these things will happen.

Oh but he has - Robe last November he did it well, only once he needed to really nail it, even then we had to coax him into it!

I feel like I've missed out, but realised that I was in the high country having my own fun with some qld crew :D

haha, my Foz gets a thrashing, not hard just high revving often :iconwink:

Looks like we'll be having some interesting trips coming up, I've now got some plans in the making

Yes we are all having trips now and most of us have our cars running.

I have more mod plans also. I'm slowly working my way up for the big trip across Aus to meet a heap of you guys in Jan 2013!

Sure would be, there are quite a few members I get on really well with and would love to catch up with. Whether I make it all the way over though is another story as the plan is an Aus Subaru meet up in Coffins Bay.

I first off have to get the Foz ready and have money ready for the trip too. Only down sider is that looks like I will be travelling alone in my car, so that's a hell of a lot of driving! But I should hopefully be with other people in their Subies.. :)

Great report...

Enjoyed reading about the challenges you faced but really sad to read about (and see) the damage from the day.

Gentle Annie nailed, though - good achievement! :newmulti:

I'd be in Taza! If you make it all the way, it'd be great to meet you and other fellow ORS members! :bananatoast:

Sure would be. I think 20-30 AuSubaru memebers are keen to, but keen doesn't always mean you can make it.

I'd like to do the trip! never been accross the Nullarbor so it would be a trip and a half. Might move this over to another thread actually..
My current dream is to see the H6 Foz up close though as it's my fav offroading Subaru. Still more work could be done to it though :iconwink:

RB, perhaps you're right, I should clean the engine out a bit. Afterwards, I did notice some smoke from the exhaust...may have been carbon build ups burning off?

I know from my days with my RX3 turbo, I HAD to regularly rev it hard to clear the plugs otherwise they would gunk up. Good excuse haha. Mind you we're talking 8000-9000rpm :lildevil:

Taza, Bennie, Venom, Pezimm and I had a ball in Robe. One dune took me a few goes and with some coaxing lol, made it revving the engine to just over 5000. Previous highest had been barely 4000 :rotfl:

I snatched others twice there and a few times here but never been stuck myself...I was SHATTERED when I needed to be snatched on Gentle Annie, breaking my dream run lol :rotfl:

Steve, looks like it will be an awesome time in Coffin Bay, would be great to have some more Melbournites there. And maybe some Perth and SA members might come back here for some Vic tracks :iconwink:

Taza, I think we need a Coffin Bay thread lol :poke:

Yeah I think your right.

I could only dream of the mud you guys have, sand gets abit boring after a while!

I'm keen to hit the powerlines though which is pretty muddy. This winter will be good but not until the foz is sorted (more lift, front bullbar, supercharger and rear locker)

I know what you mean Nachaluva :p But don't worry overly about it mate.
It happens (needing to be snatched) to all of us sooner or later, myself included :poke:

Just got back from a trip interstate so haven't had a chance to check this out yet!

Great pics there. Yes it was certainly a rough day for 4wding - and from someone who used to question the need for bullbars, I have certainly had to eat my words after this incident.

And also yes I have to agree that I was highly impressed with Matt's Geolanders - a tyre that I had previously heard mixed opinions about but I can now safely say are worth every penny. The Coopers are still doing the job but they are definitely nearing replacement. The tread is probably below 50% and is certainly not gripping the mud like it should be.

Matt tried many times in 1st Low but then made it through in 1st high. I hadnt thought of that...might have been the way to go...

Yes that certainly made the difference, much less wheel spin, which meant that at the top of the heap my ridiculous body-thrusting was enough to push the car over the top. Something I've never done or had to do before, but I guess it's the equivalent to having someone push the car from behind while it's already got a bit of momentum going from behind it.

And yes the exhaust is definitely due for a replacement (has been for some time) and I will probably be looking at a WRX, but unfortunately it won't be something I can afford to look at until I return from the US in September. The grill I'm going to need to develop some kind of temporary system for which shouldn't be too hard, and I'm going to try to use a piece of perspex to patch up the broken indicator. The panel damage is also going to have to remain for the time being.

All in all a great trip but I think my Foz will be out of action for a little while unfortunately. With all these things that need to be done I am also probably going to take a look at adding a snorkel - might as well come back bigger and badder than before!
