QLD Gemfields Trip Underway.

Getting trapped in the Gorge was, in fact, really enjoyable.I had company and we all looked at the situation as a good experience.
I am staying here at the caravan park for another 5 days and then make my way up the 'back road' to Innisfail or more correctly to Silkwood. I want to catch another Jungle Perch and THIS time get a photo of it.
I spent yesterday cleaning up/washing/getting organised again but today is free to look around.
BUY sapphires????? I thought you would just walk around and pick the things up!!:raz:
If you are coming over...got any gear to get rich???
A couple of fellows yesterday were up in the camp kitchen with the biggest red claw yabbies i have ever seen. They were like baby lobsters. I had no idea they grew that big. You would have only needed 2 for a good meal.

I have a jar of about 90 sapphires from my mate with the mine, but the cost/time of getting them cut is off putting. Red claw are awesome around the area, can often get up to 40 in an afternoon.
Im from middlemount too, if you could be bothered looking at a map, about 150km east of you.

Well, i have moved on after a week at Sapphire. Met some people who had a claim and went to see how it was done. Not for me !!! I went to a place and bought a cut Yellow/blue/red 'Parti' .52 carat stone for my sons current girlfriend. No setting and it coast $100. Really nice how the 'parti' ones show different coloured light through them. Quite pretty things really. Also, they can manufacture single colour sapphires but not the 'parti' ones. 'Parti' is short for 'partition of light' or similar.
I had had enough of 'free camping' and stuff so i pretty well hightailed it for Silkwood to get some fishing in.
I cut across from Clarke River to Ingham. Lots of dirt road and had to take it pretty easy but a drive well worth while.

I've been in Silkwood for about a week and have been fishing a bit. I've done fairly well and got my biggest Flattie on plastics at a spot on the Johnson River. A 70cm one plus a another about 60cm and quite a few smaller ones.
I've posted before about the freshwater creek right near my mates place and yester day i went for a long walk up it. Just fantastic and opened my eyes to what we often ignore as far as fishing goes.
I got 3 smaller Jungle Pearch and this Mangrove Jack. This is not a big fish but keep in mind this is was caught in crystal clear water that you would have no problem drinking.

I didn't take a picture of the JP's as i will post when i get a good sized one. I caught the Jack just around the tree in the pic.

Well....a bit late with a posting re the trip but i have been back for around 3 weeks and headed off to Sydney to catch up with my sister and i have now moved into a big house at Pacific Pines with my two sons. Much better, more room to keep away from each other!!:)
I'll only be here about 6 months of each year so not bad.
Not a lot to add really...a few more pics of the river we fish in.. and a barra that my mates son caught..

A slight twist.. I have figured that caravaning is not for me so i left the van at a place to be sold on consignment near Innisfail and brought the boat back.
The van is good once you have it set up but to tell the truth i can't be bothered putting it up and pulling it down while on the move.
If the guy does not sell it i will bring it back down here and try to flog it.
He has 2 months left to do it.
A campervan would suit me better but can't do anything until the van is sold.
Anyway, a nice trip and am making plans to head down to Tathra on the far south coast for a month around early November with the boat.

Sorry to hear that caravaning isn't for you mate.

Great looking Barra & Flatty silver too I have to say :)
