I have to be quick as i have no power and a low computer battery.
I am off on my trip with the van and have not gone far from the Gold Coast and stopped at a place i found in the 'Free camping' book that is the bible for nomads apparently.
Anyway, it's pretty good but no power or water and i have been here for a couple of days and will probably head off on Sat. or thereabouts. No hurry!
I have amused myself by putting up the annex and repacking stuff in the van and will head off for a drive soon.
I didn,t really need to put up the annex but wanted to see how it was. The pain in the bum is packing the bloody thing up!!
Have to be quick here are some pics of the set up.

Took a couple of my living quarters, not too bad really. I'm not totally organised yet and am not using the fridge in the van but brought my Waeco along.
I might well buy a folding solar panel somewhere along the way as power is a problem unless i am driving. More details later.:)

Always some idiot to spoil the party. I wish i was capable of being a mass murderer some times!!! A van with a family and two dogs turned up yesterday and guess what.....yap,yap,yap all day and into the night!!! Makes you wonder what makes these idiots tick!!!:eviltoyou::eviltoyou::eviltoyou::puke::shake::rolleyes: GRRRRRR!!!!!!

Yes there is always some :censored: that has to spoil it !!
And I'm betting that the dogs are of the small breed variety.

A Foxie and a pitt bull! Just went into the local village to get some milk. Except for the pub, it's not open

Damn, we've been thinking about a setup like yours but we have two dogs that are quite territorial. So we would probably end up being hated like your new neighbours. Maybe we'll stick with the dog friendly beach houses for now...

EVERY dog can be trained. I like dogs myself but just can't come to terms with people who are oblivious to what other people might think. If they are happy with their dog barking all the time, that's cool, just lock the dog up in THEIR house/van etc and listen to it/them in their own space.

When you say Gemfields are you talking rubyvale, saphire etc or somewhere else?

Yes, up that way somewhere. I would like to do some fossicking or whatever but know nothing about it and have no equipment as i don't really know what to get or where to go. I'm hoping i meet someone who can give me some info. Probably not the best prepared bloke around:ebiggrin:

Your rig looks great Silver.
I'm sure you'll find someone along the yay to give you a few hints on fossicking.
learning as you go will just add to the adventure!

Oh right nice. I live not far from the area and have been a few times. Have a mate there but he's a bit skeptical about taking people down his claims. There really isn't much to do there at all, but the fun of getting there and back will be awesome.

Bit of an update on the trip so far.
Took my time and to cut it short was passing the road that goes into Carnarvon Gorge and thought it would be worth a look. Got down to the NP area and of course you can't camp there!! No good using National Parks for stuff like that i suppose!! I had spied a place on the way in that looked good and it was late in the day so i set up there.

A fellow in a station wagon turned up and the next day we went in his car and had a walk in the gorge.

Rain was forecast so we heading back (25klms) to our camp and had beer o'clock and a chat. He headed off the next day but i thought it was nice and quiet so stayed another night and it started to rain a bit and a young couple in a van turned up and hitched a ride to the Gorge and back as they were not sure about their van getting in and out across the creeks.
They got back and it really started to rain and all the next dayand then we were stuck there as this creek

started to rise. I had been for a fish here, got nothing, and the water was clear and nice. At first it rose a bit but within a matter of hours it had risen around 3 mtrs and was something to see. The photo was taken after the rain but you can see where the mud came up to in the foreground. Unluckily i did not take 'before' shots and one when the creek was at it highest. I had ample food and water but ran out of beer on the second night. Ended up staying 5 nights. The river dropped just as quick as it rose but took two days to get to a crossable level.
A good lesson in what can happen in these sorts of places though.
We all enjoyed the experience but i was happy to move on.
I had to take a detour on the way here as the highway was shut at Springsure and went the back road via Blackwater. The Blackwater coal mine was an eye opener. It's BLOODY HUGE!!!! I have never seen one that big.
Stocked up on food and beer at Emerald and i am now in my first caravan park of the trip. It's at Sapphire in the Gemfields and is the one at the top of the hill. The others appear fairly 'ratty' but this one is fantastic.
I've got a great little site and arrived yesterday.
Today i am catching up on washing the clothes (first time in 3 weeks) and other stuff. Only the second hot shower i have had in 3 weeks also. Bush showers are OK but get a bit cold.
Going to stay for a week and enjoy it.
It was amazing to see the amount of trucks carrying mining, gas stuff out this way. Utes, trucks carrying trucks!!,excavators you name it. Orange shirts everywhere. Bloody glad to see the end of it!
Anyway,all good.

Thought this was cool. 2 different spider webs together.

Those views of the mountains look amazing :raz:

Sorry to hear that you were somewhat stranded with the rising creek :o
But great to hear you were well prepared for such an occasion :iconwink:

Sounds like your having a good time. I'm going across to Emerald on Saturday, i'm tempted to come back home through sapphire and say g'day.

Pat's Gems are the ones that do the fossiking, but i normally buy my saphires from M&M's which are just across the road from Pat's and up a bit.

Which way are you going back to Brissy?
