Tribeca offroad?

Gidday ST & Thunder

I've never seen a tribeca doing anything other than hauling kids around, do they do it offroad?

i think its like seeing a toyota kluga offroad or a ford territory- just not likely

Whether they can or not is irrelevant really.

The symmetrical AWD system makes for very good primary safety, even if it never even goes near a gravel road; same as it did with Roo1.

i also think if people were going to spend that much a tribeca to offroad they would be better off buying a landcruiser.
also for the size and wieght of the tribeca i cant imagin it doing any more then light sand or camping.
although there is one video on youtube with a tribeca doing a wate crossing

I searched all over the web, and this is the only major offroad shot of a Tribeca, lol.

Pretty extreme snow drifts there :rotfl:

I have to admit I'm a bit of a territory fan.

I'm just surprised that of the thousands of offroad Subaru enthusiasts nobody has a tribeca.

because they are one of the most ugly subaru's ever made!

i red some were that the next tribeca will basically be a rebadged toyota kluga as part of there partnership. not good the kluga is terrible! need you bout license to drive it rather then a car license

I agree ... And I have yet to see a really pretty Subaru ... Styling is not Subaru's strong point! :rotfl:

All truck-based 4WDs are like that to drive.

What usually happens is that Dad buys it for Mum to keep their 'Fred and Wendy' safe (kids), in the mistaken belief that mass = safety.

This is not true for (at least) two reasons:
  1. Good crumple design will beat sheer mass, up to a point (don't argue the toss with a bus, tram, train or truck ... ); and
  2. Passenger vehicle based designs have a whole different set of design standards as regards roll-over angles; braking; suspension; steering; etc, etc. If you have ever driven a forward control truck you will understand instantly what I am talking about!
People seem to think that something like a Forester is a light weight vehicle. At nearly 1.5 tonnes tare, it isn't. The original Mini and Tx series MGs weighed a mere 0.5 tonne.

A new Ford Falcon only weighs about 250 kgs more than my Forester, and a lot of that difference is made up of cast iron bits that Subaru uses much lighter materials for ... The Falcon is also a physically much larger car, so weight for volume comes into the equation as well.

Yeah the styling isn't the best but in the 2nd refacing of the Tribeca it came out much better.

Did you know as of a month or two ago they stopped making the Tribeca altogether in Japan. Nick Senior (CEO Subaru Aus) was really dissapointed as the sale in Australia were pretty good considering they didn't advertise the Tribeca at all.

If I was needing a car that size I would get the Toyota Klugger, I really like them. AWD, v6 power, etc.. but I wouldn't offroad it ever. I have to say I also like the styling of the Rav4 too. I prefer the newer one over the newer Forester anyday.

Not keen on Rav4 styling or the new forester, and especially not the tribeca, but the Klugger oh man to i like that car. Would buy it without a second thought if i needed a car of that category. The tribeca is one ugly car imo.

haven driven one they are honestly the worst car i have ever driven! the AWD is just front wheel drive.

they do look good for a large car, good to be a passenger in but it stops there

I quite like the feel of the new rav. I got to drive one round a block as the car needed moving at work but that was it. It was Auto and v6 but it seemed quite nice. I didn't really test it though. I kow their AWD is 2nd best to Subaru's auto. Was pretty quick too :raspberry:

Don't get me started on the Nissan X-trail though. I could stab every owner who has one of them!!! I hate the cars with a bloody passion :furious:

just having a quick search on the youtube found one being used as a snow ploy [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbezHgFmef8"]snow tribeca1 - YouTube[/ame]
there is only a few were its in the snow thats basically it

Never seen one offroad & probably never will :bcool:
So I can't say how they perform.

I'll agree with what others have said though. The Tribeca would have to be one of the worst looking things I have seen :puke:
I'll admit that series 2 did look better, but not by much :shake:
On top of that, they are quite a large vehicle. Which I think for the average family is just a little too big.

Regards
Mr Turbo

I kind of like it! Both the pre and facelifted versions.
Being ugly hopefully be able to pick up a wrecked one for a 3.6 h6 5sp auto conversion.

If I accidentally had septuplets I'd buy one of these over a Honda odesey.

No way would I buy a klugger wash your mouth out Taza!

Exactly. Well said.

I had a FWD Klunker (Kluger) and it was not a good car. The steering rattled, it was too heavy- oh, dear- a horrible car. I went from that to my current Forrie and the Forrie is a hundred miles in front. As for the Tribeca- the least said about it the better. It may not be dust proof, but it does appear to be sales proof.

We've found a few territory pieces offroad lol :rotfl:

I like the styling of some of the WRXs, Liberty/outback & aspects of the Forester...just not its big square arse lol

+1

Truck based 4WDs have a much higher rate of rollover, and the rate of serious injury or death in a rollover is something like 3 times higher in a 4WD than a passenger car

If you've read about the accident "Blue Fox" had in his forester, you'd never drive anything else. Made me feel a whole lot safer, even without airbags or ABS.

I think his recent run of bad luck has given him pain in the brain :raspberry::rotfl:

Here is a small video and two photos of one of our club members in his Tribeca on the beach for the first time.
It went really well for a stock car
