As far as I'm concerned, it is always in your best interest, to let & tell your insurance company about any & all mods/extras you have in & on your motor vehicle.
And other thing aswell, I know it sounds obvious, but always read the policy, thoroughly, especially the fine print. Finally, if you don't understand it
don't sign it 
And never be afraid to ask questions either

That was my understanding too.You are legally obligated to tell your insurer anything and everything that may effect their insured risk. It is written right there in your policy document ...
