Ive heard some good and bad reviews of these guys but they advertise some cool looking DR gearboxes; Ultmate Performer; Ultimate Warrior.

https://www.subarugearbox.com.au/su...x-transmission-repair-sales-all-terrains.html

I wonder if it be saving myself the pain of modifying L series gears and selectors to fit my sg box and finding sf 4.11:1 diff centres and then look at LSDs and heavier centre diff.

At least I'd have a price point to work back from.

Any experience or comments welcome.

I have requested quotes from them numerous times and they have been great.
Im pretty sure both Mr Turbo and Kevin have gotten parts from them.

They are very helpful and can do custom builds but at the prices I would look at other solutions. Plus unless you get any other either box's or engines installed by a professional mechanic I don' think their warranty will cover... im not 100% sure on this though.

Correct; I got just a couple of small parts from them - a remanufactured engine, rebuilt torque converter :rotfl:

Seriously, these guys really know their stuff.

Out of interest Taza what was a ballpark figure on a box?

I think for a reconditioned foz box from my gen (manual) with front lsd and replaced syncro's on 1st and 2nd gear was around $4000.
For a box that was used and had no work done at all was around $1200-1400.

But as Kevin said they are very helpful and friendly.

They have a very good reputation.
I'm looking at getting a replacement box with 'early' low ratio gears and double synchro from them when the time comes, also a 12kg centre LSD.

My fiancé just found a new wedding ring so I have a bit of bargaining power at the moment.

What does the 4.4:1 diff ratio come from? - or is it aftermarket?

Looks like I got ripped off a bit when I bought my car- it's rear diff is open. Spoke to these guys- they reckon about $1200 for a plated rear diff.

It is just the centre- or hemisphere as they call it. You then need someone to do the pre-load and all the other work

No- that's a BYO. This was only the first place I rang. I will keep an eye out- no rush. If something good comes up I'll grab it

Yes that is correct :iconwink:
I bought a gearbox from them just over a year ago & it hasn't missed a beat

The gearbox I got from them in Feb last year (2011) was a for a MY05 XT & was a hybrid one. And has NO Low Range

IE This particular gearbox is slightly different, as the gearing has been specially treated & strengthened :raz: Aswell as that, it's sliding hubs have been modified for easier gear changing at lower speeds (great for 4wding) & better 5th gear selection & improved 5th gear synchro. :discomonkey:

The cost of the gearbox (supply only & also exchange) was $2915.

Not sure if this helps at all, as you're probably after a duel range instead.

Seriously, these guys really know their stuff.
They sure do & would highly recommend them to anyone :)

Regards
Mr Turbo

Great thanks guys. It easy to get scared off a business after reading a couple of negative posts in wrx forums. Good to hear theres a lot of happy customers too.

The ol saying if you get good service you tell 2 people, bad service you tell 200 probably applies.

Also some times you deal with bad vendors, sometimes good vendors have to deal with bad customers.

I'm going to give them a go.

Now I just need to know what I want.

Lower final drive is the best form of ratio adjustment as it takes stress off the gearbox IMHO. I can live with an extra 500rpm at 100kph.

I'd love a lower first gear and while I can select mine on the go no probs ATM it can be a problem so I'll give the modded syncro a shot.

Can any one recomend a LSD combination that won't be bad on the road but won't leave me stuck with 1 wheel in the air?

As usual comments and experience is much appreciated.

Awesome Stilson. Can't wait to see the box
Im happy to help put it in if you want a hand

Im still deciding what to do about my car, but due to some recent funding coming to my hands(in April or May) more mods will be on the cards if not another car.
Custom gearbox (replacement) probably with EJ25 from an Outback or later 2nd gen Foz.

Stilson I would do what Venom did in his H6 Lib. I can't remember what LSD he used but it gives both good on road and really good offroad performance.
Mine has 4.11 ratios and does 3500rpm at 120km/hr. With a taller 5th gear if you wanted to really go custom could help with that. Im pretty sure its only 1 way, I don't think 1.5 or 2way are suitable for a road car.

This is what venom's lib is capable of. With very limited articulation too and only 2" lift.
I reckon your 2.5 with a good gearbox would still go great.
