Oils ain't Oils, Harry. Fuel use by 2006 N/A Forester

I currently use Mobil Formula S2 10W-40 (Semi-synthetic) in my N/A 2003 Forester, I have kept a fuel log from Day 1 of ownership in this Excel Spreadsheet.

Over the life of the car I have never bothered to relate the l/100k or MPG to the different oils used.

Update on fuel economy at 18 Feb 12 fill

Gidday Folks

Last tank was 100% city driving with about 40%+ stationary!! Also about 40% short trips.

Mostly with air-con on.

Also tried using 5th HR between 55~60 km/h for the entire tank.

Results?

53.64 L 436.2 Kms = 12.3 L/100 kms.

I have switched back to using only 4th HR at < 60 km/h (no use of 5th HR until at least 65 km/h ... ) since the beginning of this tank, as this is around 2100 revs, and healthier for the engine with better responsiveness in traffic.

some how im getting the best fuel economy ive ever had in my forester! usuing castrol magnatec fuel saver. i wouldnt think it would make a difference but my last tank of fuel using premium 95 i got 8.15L per 100km! this was a mixture of inner city driving of melbourne, highway, and suburbian. i thought 8.15 was awesome!! my best is aroung 7.5 which was the tank of fuel before this last one which was just highway driving
so i dont know whether its the oil or not but either its efficient!

I am also a fan of full synthetics. I changed to Mobil1 10-30 after the run in service but went to 5-30 from about 75,000klms ( now 122,500). This was after i found the 2.5 was suitable for 5-30 and used to use Mobil1 5/30 but it got a bit dear so went to Castrol Edge 5/30 but am now back to Mobil1 which is about $84 for 5ltrs.
The best i have ever got from a tank is about 670/680.
I did have full synthetic in the gearbox and diff from the 50,000 service to the 100,000 service.
I can also suggest trying the NGK Iridium IX plugs. These are well worthwhile. Around $17 each from Superchina. Last around 50/60,000.
I picked up approx 1/2ltr per 100ks and the car was better down low.
