Just straps - beginner

If a Subaru forester only has one recovery point on the front, how do you use a distribution strap? Dont you need 2 points?

What year is yours? 2010, 2011?

I know for a fact those years have two at the front. They are under the front bumper which would make them hard to see unless you have a look under.

For the rear I would use the tow bar, or if you don't have one get one.
With most snatches though it doesn't need to be done hard, usually anyway. I have actually bent my towbar, im guessing from snatching or it hitting something...

Thats what I thought too. There should be 2 of them for the 2011 model.

Thats a good idea taza, you read my thoughts :iconwink:

Just remember, when using the tow bar as a recovery point, never ever use the tow ball as the recovery point, under any circumstances.

Instead, pull the tongue out, slip the snatch into the hitch then slide the pin back in to secure it.

Ok I know the 2 points your talking about. I was under the impression they were tie down points and not to be used for recovery. The recovery point I thought was under the plastic cap in the front bumper and requires the screw in eyelet. There is only one of these both front and rear.

The 2 bottom tie downs are so close to the bumper that if you put shackles through them and were getting pulled out the shackle would be pressing against the underneath of the bumper. And seeming the vehicle pulling you out would be higher most likely it'd be putting a lot of upward force on the bumper? Hmmm

It'll be fine when getting pulled :)

They are both tie down and recovery points. The screw in POS for both front and rear I would even trut that to hold up my washing line let along pull a 1.4 tonne car (on road too)!

I've read elsewhere that the screw in eyelets are very very strong. Cant rememeber the forum (ozfoz, subaruforester, or maybe this one) but a guy who works with metal shackles and such doing heavy lifting with machinery, reckons the grade of steel on those eyebolts is ridiculous. And the thread type is almost as ridiculous. And by ridiculous he meant, insanely strong! So shouldnt be a prob for a snatch out.

Around this part of Texas, we see either a lot of mud or a lot of hard-packed dirt. I got stuck Christmas day (only had the Outback 3 weeks) in the mud you see in the picture. A Ford F-150 pulled me out using a 25-foot recovery strap attached to the rear tow hook.

I need to get a second tow strap. I really like the trailer hitch winch though. Speaking of wenches, I'd like to throw my ex-wife under the tires for traction. :lildevil:
