Hey mate, a starters kit??? Far out its a pros kit, especially for a Subie. Looks like a great deal to me, I bought all my gear seperate and it cost me a fortune.

Along with that stuff a air compressor and pressure gauge are very useful too, mainly if you do any sand or beach work.

Mainly planning on Sand/Beach driving! but am really hoping to get alot more offroad group trips. Im really looking forward to getting stuff done to get out and meet everyone and have some off road fun and get away from everyone now and then!
I know you need most of the gear to go out with groups, and chilling on my own around Stockton etc I really should have my own! And Im figuring best to do a kit on special like this one.
Just dont know if it actually has everything I need? What else do I NEED strap wise?
Or should I buy separately as I dont need everything yet?
They the right weights?
Im looking at an ARB air compressor hard mounted still. Most things Iv read say they are high up in quality, functionality, reliability and lost of places to get fixed/serviced, and it is a good size.

The strap has everything you will need, you can use the tree trunk protector as a distribution strap between both front tow/recovery points. Don't use one or you will cause some serious damage (done that before).

The winch strap you could use for towing sop thats not a waste, don't use the snatch strap for towing if you can help it.

Maxtrax are handy to get you out of the bog, Since I have had mine I am yet to need a snacth which all in all doesn't mean im putting any extra stress on the vehicles body and chassis.

The ARB compressors are good, abit bulky though. Bushranger ones are also very reliable and better value for money. Thats just my 2 cents worth though.

If you plan on doing alot of sand/beach driving like myself I recommend either 1 or 2" lift from springs and/or blocks, some fo the deeper tracks that the 'heavies' make can cause you to bottom out and get stuck. With a little bit of lift it makes a huge difference.
Since your Forester is the latest gen too and pretty new it could be an idea to get the bottom of the vehicle sprayed with some kind of anti-rust treatment if you plan on keeping the car for a while.
My exhaust has actually completely rusted out from being on the beach atleast 3times a week ever week for the past 2 years. So its just something to thinik about.

But all that comes with the kit will be useful and you will need almost most of it if you buy it seperately anyway so why not get it in a kit, especially at that price.

Yeah thats a pretty comprehensive kit! I would have preferred the Standard snatch at 5,400kg but 6,200kg isnt much more.

So it has:
5,400kg Snatch strap;
6,400kg tree protector/ distribution strap;
2,700kg extension/tow strap (little light but breaking strain is 4ton so not a prob);
3.2t bow shackles x2;
4.7t bow shackle x1;
gloves & bag.

The only other you could get is a strap dampener. It goes on the strap midway to slow it down if something does give way. Not vital but nice to have.

Then get your compressor done & a decent digital tyre gauge, some batteries for your new walkie talkie :biggrin:, a sump guard, lift kit, Maxtrax, dual batteries & some cool sunnies & you're fully decked out :monkeydance:

For your signature, just click "User CP' in the top blue bar, then on the left hand side click "Edit Signature" Type in what you want it to say & save :)

Me too :)

With the Bow Shackles (D Shackles) just make sure that they fit in your recover points & that they're not too big :iconwink:

If you don't end up going with the ARB air compressor thats hard mounted, you may want to have a look at the one Ratbag just purchased. He seems to be quite impressed with it so far.

It should be getting a good workout this w-end (I think) so we'll know a little more about it then, on how it went :)

If you're on a budget make milk crate recovery tracks

Saw that on the news last night & you just knew he wasn't going to make it across. It was just a matter of time before it stopped & stalled :lol: Just what was he thinking :huh:
Luckily the ute had some recovery gear with it.
But :censored: me, how many things were wrong in/with that recovery technique :shake:

Very irresponsible of the ute driver. There we were, with every chance of the world losing another Camry and he has to go out and bring it back from the dead. Next time a Camry is holding up traffic in the right lane ( as they always do) I'll know who to blame.

If a Subaru forester only has one recovery point on the front, how do you use a distribution strap? Dont you need 2 points?
