Subie XV?? what? Awesome!

The Euros seem to like it- just what it achieves I have no idea.

I saw one parked out the front of Tom Kerr at Ryde on the way home from work today :)
Mind you, it was only a passing glance as I drove past. It did look quite good actually from what I saw of it though :)
I might drop in there on my way home tomorrow & have a closer look I think :raz:

I ended up stopping in there on my way home to have a closer look.
It did look nice, but not for me I don't think.
I'd rather stay with my XT Forry that I currently have

Here's a thread with some pics from Greentreefrog (Frog on ausubi) who's got one at the dealership he works at...

It might get the urbanite's heart beat raised, but it doesn't do anything for me - no real interest in even thinking about offroading it! Got no good offroad qualities other than maybe approach and departure angles and the fact that it's got a better foot print on the ground.

I think it should be classed as an "urban cruiser" because it looks like it's designed to tackle the poor bitumen roads we have here in vic, some street little while doing it all in style.

Cheers

Bennie

Looks like the traction control might come in handy with these things. Although this is the old Impreza XV. The new one should be even better!!

Not too impressed by that. Imagine the wear on the drivetrain doing that every day...just to get up the drive!

haha

I wonder how many attempts and how much damage they caused trying to getup that hill at the end  They would of done it a few times :raspberry:

I would love to see a 2" lift kit and Subaxtreme front bar on it :iconwink:

It's a shame the new XV is only available with the 2L 110kw engine. My experience with it in the present Impreza tells me that with the extra weight in the XV it will be a real slug. It's not even as sweet and as smooth as the engine in my 07 XT. I hope Subaru realize there would be a market out there for both the diesel and the turbo.

A diesel or turbo would seem to be a perfect match for the offroad appeal & marketing of the XV...lets hope they do it sooner than later :iconwink:

A diesel/turbo would be a great option for sure :raz:
As for a petrol/turbo, I wouldn't hold my breath :sadbanana: Thats the impression I got from the dealer when I spoke to them about it anyway :o
They said that they wanted to keep the turbo's for the Forry's & WRX's.
He also said if I wanted something more sporty, then thats what the Rex's for

Swung by the Local Dealer today - they had 2 XV's on display, with 3 lined up for delivery in the showroom. They also had a new Impreza 2.0i as well. Have to say I'm impressed with this new model.

The XV, as I put it to a mate of mine is great for people looking for a Forester but don't want the full Forester. I know it does sound like a bit of good old irish logic, but I see it appealing to those who like to sit a bit higher, but they don't need the full height or size of a Forester. I'd suggest it's very likely that when mum needs to head down the auto path that we'll have an XV. I vote for the Orange colour though.

It feels that it is roughly the same size as my '05, but it sits a bit higher. More passenger space, but less luggage capacity. In fact, even I'd trade my Forester for it as I've not really used my Forester for offroading at all (graded dirt roads don't count as offroading), and basically need a wagon for the bike, and any sailing stuff I need to carry.

The Impreza seems to be a nice upgrade as well - at first I wasn't sold on looks, but I'm a fan now. My only gripe is that the new RS equivalent is CVT only - same as the Liberty 'Sport'

Both Forester's are being serviced next week (going to be a cheap week.....) so hopefully the dealer there has some more stock to look at.

They should have put in a 2.5NA instead IMO. A FB series 2.5 would be very grunty indeed.

Problem is, the XV is meant to be a different car to the Forester. IMO, a 2.5 would make it too similar to a Forester, and either the XV would be a flop, because everyone would buy a Forester, or the XV would be a huge success, but Forester sales would drop massively.

Subaru's marketing department can never be accused of knowing what it is doing. But with this thing, who knows? It might well appeal to a certain market. The 2 litre engine kills it for me- what is the point of an all new engine that has the same power and torque as the old- and even then the torque peak is higher up the rev range? Looks like I'll keep the Forrie for a few years because the current one does not do it for me. In fact, none of the current non turbo Subarus really interest me now except maybe for this new sports car shared with Toymotor. .

I personally find that the 2litre is a decent engine, and I think that whilst the new engine keeps the same power and torque figures, they have obviously made some internal changes. I have driven a 2.0l Auto in the current gen Impreza, and was actually surprised by it. It certainly didn't have the get up of the manual, nor the Forester, but it certainly was liveable for a daily commute.

I also assume that the main reason for the update to the engine was to not only comply with current emissions standards, but to also prepare the engine for more changes in the future.

I personally see no benefit out of a turbo petrol for my own circumstances - yes, I'd love one, but in reality an N/A petrol, or turbo diesel suits my needs more - I get more enjoyment out of sailing and mountain biking, meaning that there are more important factors out of a car. But this is why there are different models in the range.

I did not buy the Forrie for performance- that is what the WRX is for. But the problem with the new engine is that rather than bringing the car to the forefront of performance/economy, it just brings it to midfield. For a brand new engine, I expected more. What I do need is an engine strong enough to perform on the open road without going down two gears to cross a painted line. If you reckon the current 2 litre does this, well that's good. My point remains- there are other 2 litre engines out there that out perform the new engine and getting fuel economy that is as good or better.

One has to keep moving forward. When my WRX was released in 1999, it was pretty much in a league of its own for anything within cooee of the price. And similarly nothing sort of a supercar had the sort of grip it had. Yet newer technology becomes available, and you either have to update to a new car to keep pace or update your existing car. So my WRX is now more powerful than a current STI, yet has the same drivetrain technology as it, weighs less and so goes better than a current STI.

The brand new 2 litre would appear to give better fuel economy than it did, but it still gets beaten by older designs. It is only progress in relative terms.

I never said I thought he 2 litre would perform on the highway - I believe that's not really where the Impreza or even the XV belongs. I believe that a 2.5 is going to cover all bases better than what a 2.0 will. As a second car however, the 2 litre would be more than enough. Obviously diesel is a different story.

I cannot comment more than what i have about engine design nor your car as i do not understand enough about engines, nor have I had experience with your car.
