Do you guys in Australia have the Subaru XV on the streets and in your showrooms?
I just got wind of it from my dad, of all people, today.
Looks like an impreza on lifted (like forester) suspension, giving it 8.9" ground clearance... Brilliant, especially that it's factory!!

That actually looks quite nice for a new (model) Subi, especially compared to some of the models they've had in the past

Regards
Mr Turbo

Well I've downloaded the brochure from the australian subaru website - and there's no low range.

What a waste!

Cheers

What?? NO low range, how could they do that to you?!
welcome to the lame American market :raspberry: :rotfl:

I wonder how the CVT would do offroad?

Anyone driven a CVT tranny?

Most soft roaders only have a single range box and many do quite well, this is my Legacy/Liberty in some soft stuff with open front diff and only viscous center & rear diffs.... 38lb in the tyres.

Well with a turbo you don't need the low gear ;)

But for dual range boxes, as I understand they pretty much all have the lame 1.19:1 low. Pretty lame, but if you can score the early impreza gearbox (with the 1.59"1 low) that would rock, but first gen fozzies had 1.44:1 low, that's pretty good!

OMFG THAT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!
I WANT ONE IN THAT COLOUR. I LOVE IT. Thats the best car made EVER :lildevil: That looks sooooo good.

Taza

Hey dood, check yer PMs! :D

I have a thought on solving my dual range search AND helping you out a the same time! Awesome!!

We had a CVT X-Trail out on some steep tracks recently - at times the CVT just gave up; you could rev the motor but nothing was happening at the drive train.

Yep! All you will get is that annoying winding sound (like a pissed off cat). On paper they make the cvt look equal if not better, but real tests prove otherwise.

IMO a CVT should not be placed in an off road car - i can't see any benefits there. However, in most other forms of vehicle it does actually work quite well. We recently test drove an Audi A4 with the CVT, and I have to say it was pretty decent in a car like that - kept revs low, but close to the optimal point depending on acceleration, and gave decent efficiency. However, for off roading I'd rather a conventional auto or manual.

Don't know what t think about the new XV. Same ground clearance as new Forester, but less power and torque - I think I'd spend the extra and get a Forester. In some ways the current XV makes more sense in the line up. It's higher than an Impreza, but lower than a Forester - I guess what I believe is not generating enough sales for Subaru (but that can be left for a rant somewhere else)

As for design - back looks weird, and front looks a bit like a Focus. Interior looks to be pretty decent though, but I wish Subaru would offer a hard floor in the boot like my car, not just a cargo tray.

I must say, you guys crack me up!!!

there are some great comments above!!!!

BUT, here's my latest on the XV... It IS scheduled to come to America in 2013!!

YAY!! Hopefully they won't down-cool it like they did with the STX when they produced the baja as the production line.

The previous info I read was it would be offered with the CVT or 6MT with paddle shifters...
Nothing is mentioned of low gear (but of coarse this is USA-targeted info...
Although I did first find it from the Subaru Australia page.

I've downloaded the brochure for this new model and there is no mention of a low range in any of it, including in the specifications section...

I doubt they'll ever bring out another model with a low range for offroading :(

Cheers

Hmm, so it started in Geneva 2010 as what looks like a lifted WRX shell
Eurpoe first (go figure ;)

But it looks like it's changed a bit for the later Aussie release and the US release in 2013. A bit more away from IMP-based and into it's own platoform?

One article compared it to the forester saying, "longer wheel base, shorter roof, equal ground clearance, slightly shorter but wider body/stance.

sounds good, shorter, wider and longer WB, but not really longer body than the big new fozzie

anyhoo, there's so much more. Every time I google it I get more stuff. . . .
I digress. . ;)

Mo info on a CVT with all the bells and whistles (traction control, etc), getting stumped by some snow...
CVT is not a durable for abuse machine... Subies are certainly getting AWAY from the abuse department.

Well there's always the option of the manual. But I also wonder if the CVT's with the manual mode of shifting via steering wheel paddles would fare any better?

I found this silhouette comparison that proves interesting https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=36067641&postcount=325

And whats a post without some video entertainment **disclaimer : it appears if this is the target audience Subaru wants to market their new XV to, I don't fit the categories
