Corner Crawl 2011

I'd say light truck construction is more important than the tread so you can more safely lower the tyre pressure for the corrugations and gibbers. Lower pressure also significantly increases grip on gravel.

Thanks for the replies Kevin and Sigmund.
I guess I'll give it a crack and see what happens!

Go for it.

The big variable is road conditions, from closed to dirt highway, and that can change overnight. Be flexible.

Road conditions:

SA has a good website and roads out of towns up there have clear condition boards but they're not always up to date. NSW has a 24 hour no. you can call. Qld is a pox - shire by shire - but the info centre at Birdsville is a good place to call if you can connect.

Getting local info when you're there is best. Innamincka Trading Post posts tri-state road conditions out the front. As does the Parks office at Tibooburra. Tib cop is also on the ball.

Have fun out there. We've done it twice and loved it. Happy to answer any questions you may have.

Awesome looking trip.

Great ride report and pics, thanks for posting and showing us a few corners of the world that most of us will never experience.

Thank you very much for all of your info Sigmund, I will be sure to jot it all down before heading off!

Yeah so it's been a while since I visited the site... Since I don't own a Subie anymore. O this trip I got 3 punctures, the one that Kevin talked about with the pinch of the tyre, I think was a mixture of things, probably overweight, too fast over a pot hole and being lead car I took the brunt of what was to come on the road. Also I was on the cape trip with Kevin, no punctures on any car. Got my first puncture the other day in the challenger after 70,000km of mixed miles.
