I'd planned a trip in conjunction with OutbackBen, and the Subaru 4WD Club (NSW) to run a trip to three corners, Cameron Corner, Haddon Corner and Poeppel Corner.
First Day was to meet at Nyngan-
All but one met up there in time for dinner at the RSL. Our last car, a Navara, who had suspension troubles along the way.

Day 2 was to Wanaaring-
Good drive to Wanaaring, Kevin had the first flat tyre of the trip. All good for the rest of us, as we played footy in the middle of the Mitchell Highway, and planked on the road.

Day 3 to Cameron Corner-
Good day's drive, I broke my tent in the morning, so luckily Kevin and I found a dyna bolt to fix it temporarily. I then drove through a dip too fast, and pinched a tyre, resulting in my first flat. Felt like a huge accomplishment to make it to the Corner. Lots of photos taken, and a most amazing sunrise was seen.

Day 4 to Innamincka-
Up and down, up and down the dunes as we headed west from Cameron Corner, along the Strzelecki to Innamincka. I felt well and truly outback.

Day 5 to Burke and Wills Dig Tree
Quite a humbling day really, seeing the Dig tree and graves of Burke and Wills. They were two of about 20 (from memory) explorers who aimed to explore the centre of Australia in search of an inland sea. They didn't return home from their journey.

Day 6 to Haddon Corner
Despite being warned not to travel the Cordillo Downs Road, due to washouts, we found it instead to be one of the best roads we drove in the trip. We visited Cordillo Downs Woolshed, and headed onto Haddon Corner. We all had more photos round the cairn and camped in what was to be as close to 'desert like' as we were to get. We were sheltered by a dune, and had the whole corner to ourselves.

Day 7 to Birdsville (Discovered Eyre Creek was still flooded, so couldn't get to Poeppel Corner)
A nice run to Birdsville along the well graded Birdsville Development Road. It was great to finally arrive at Birdsville, I'd wanted to go there since I first heard of it as a young child.

great report. Sounds like a terific trip.

(I wish I had adopted this writing style to the Nullarbor trip report: It would be finished by now if I could write this economically.)

I'll read this report again with the road atlas at home so that i can follow it step by step.

EDIT: scrub the last bit: I just clicked the exploroz link: that is awesome. How do you do that? Could I download data from my GPS to do that?

Great trip report joel_57 :raz:
Sounds like all you guys (& gals) had a top time
Had a look at some of the pics from the trip too & they are brilliant :raz:

As a matter of interest, how many KM's did you end up doing for the trip ?

I have a Spot Tracker, which is a satellite tracker. I've signed up with Exploroz, and it tracks me as I travel throughout the country. There is an option I think to download from Exploroz to a GPS, not positive though.

from Mr Turbo (don't know how to put two quotes in a single post) As a matter of interest, how many KM's did you end up doing for the trip ?

According to Exploroz, from Walgett, and returning to Walgett, I covered 4922km. I'd imagine the rest of the crew covered more, as they came from Sydney or Canberra.

Joel

Updated... Now with Photos!
Bugger! I had to shrink the size of my post, and decided to cut half, and paste it into another post. Prob was, the net crashed while doing it. I'llhave to get the 2nd week up tonight.

Joel

Day 8. Birdsville Rest Day-
A chance to do the washing, explore Birdsville with it's amazing working museum, as well as make some minor repairs to the vehicles before heading to Big Red the following morning.

Day 9- Fun at Big Red-
We went on a Day trip to Big Red. We all climbed Little Red with ease, and then tackled Big Red. All cars, but one, made it up the main track. The X-trail made it with ease, up the 2nd track. Apparently there's a chicken track, further across, but I didn't see it.

Day 10- Birdsville to Mungerannie-
Good trip down the Birdsville track. It was a very reasonable driving surface. Got another flat. At Mungerannie we swam in the thermal pool, which stunk of sulfur. We had our Lawrence of Arabia theme night, since we couldn't hold it in the desert. Phil who owns the pub is great value. Gotta go back.

Day 11- Mungerannie to Marree-
Another good drive, with the bonus of the Cooper Creek Ferry, which is a rarity.

Day 12- Marree to Blanchwater Ruins-
The group split in two. Some flying over Lake Eyre, while the rest drove out to it. We had a big drive, down to Copley, Leigh Creek for supplies, and then on the Strzelecki towards Blanchwater. Got in late, missed the turn, and had to be guided in by our group, (who flew) and arrived earlier.

Day 13- Blanchwater to Noccundra
Good drive, with a great shortcut. Got to Cameron Corner, to discover the road to Tibooburra was closed due to rain. So we drove to Noccundra.

Day 14- Noccundra to Ford's Bridge-
Up early for a long drive. Air up, to discover I had another flat. Fixed that and on the way. through THargomindah,to HUngerford. and onto FOrds Bridge.

Day 15- FOrds Bridge to Albert-
Best Driving in mud ever between Fords Bridge and Bourke.

Good trip.

Care to comment on how a std Fozz with good tyres and alloy bash plate would cope with Innamincka-Birdsville-Maree? Appreciate that after rain all bets are off.

It will be just fine.

Awesome report...keep the pics coming :iconwink:

Why do you think you got 2 flats...bad luck or just hazardous surface?

Did you know that one of those corners (cant remember which) is the home of the worlds second most venomous snake...the Inland Taipan (or Western Taipan or "fierce snake"). Very fast, very aggressive & VERY deadly!

Love the improvised sumo guard haha :rotfl:

Hazardous surface!

I got one (in the Triton). Just from crap on the road is all.

One of Joel's pinched against the rim when he hit a bad pot hole.

Joel may have some news for us (if he ever gets back to this site)!

Keep your eye on this. I have it bookmarked on my phone, since it changes pretty much daily, and I can check conditions as I drive. Covers Oodnadatta, as well as Strzelecki and Birdsville tracks, plus Flinders and Gawler Ranges.

Love the improvised sumo guard haha :rotfl:

Was subsequentially torn off on Stockton Beach and is now on someone's den wall. But it served its purpose for the Corner Crawl (& btw it was found laying in the bush)

Looks like a terrific trip, with some awesome photos!

I am planning on heading out to Corner Country in the next few months, however am a little concerned for my H/T tyres after reading this thread! I will have 2 spares, but are the punctures you suffered fixed with a typical puncture repair kit, or are the roads rougher than that?

Thanks in advance.

Mine was fixed with a repair kit; Joel's was split and had to be replaced. I would not head out there with H/Ts but if you have no choice then go for it, at least you will have 2 spares. Luck of the draw really, just did Cape York with 7 4WDs and not a single puncture! (but all on at least AT, I was running MT on the Triton)
