Basically sums it up. Mainstream vs something that still has character.

A bit inaccurate at the end though when talking about rear space. You'll see the Rav4, he only has a stroller. In the Subaru, he has a babyseat AND the stroller.

Very true re the rear cargo space.
I'd also like to hear more on their opinions when driven on the dirt

Very true! They have done several forester off road test, including one against the Mitsubishi Outhouse , where they talked about how it actually handled off road. Plus, i thought it was suppose to be an offroad review....

If both have all the utility you could want, why sacrifice fun?!?

Bottom line: You could not pay me to pick the RAV4 over the Forester XT!

Both pretty interesting reviews. My friend Doug (sometimes seen driving a blue FJ Cruiser) is visiting and we were just talking last night about the Subaru 'fun factor' against the Toyota's.

I think they should have headed up that trail in the Outback and Outlander. I'm curious about the Outlander 'locking system' they were talking about, will have to do some looking.

They also didn't mention whether the US spec Ravs have 'On demand' 4wd, like we have here. Like Mr Turbo said, I want to hear how they performed on dirt too. Rather than just as a family hauler.

Regards,

Joel

I looked it up on Toyota and it's "Electronic On Demand 4wd".

Another funny thing i noticed was how the guys were bashing the foresters 4 speed automatic. Well turns out the 2.5L 4wd Rav4 (most comparable to the forester) is a 4 speed too, while the v6 is a 5 speed.

Check the following video

I love my forester.

I did not know that, I think subaru's are great, a fun to drive fuel efficient offroad car with great towing capacity and that is just the 2.0L. I want the diesel forester, my father inlaw has the diesel outback and really likes it.

Kind of a corky review, but they're from Boulder, Colorado, so it's understandable :raspberry:

When the video started, I've thought to myself "that trail looks familiar...", then I've noticed the Colorado plate on the RAV-4. At one point, a forest road marker comes into view. FR 286C. Yup, I've been there! Left Hand Canyon trail, 2010. And the parking lot is near this intersection: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=40.1...100922,-105.337472&spn=0.019138,0.038581&z=15

Small world.. Maybe I should email them a link to my videos, show them what Subies really can do

Yeah you've probably seen alot of the places those guys have been. They do quite a few reviews out there, but you're right. I don't think they really know what the subarus are capable of. They 'ought to pay a visit to ORS!

Great idea
And while you're at it, send them a link to us here at ORS

That first video I think pretty much sums up the majority of the population's idea of "offroading" - that to me was a poorly constructed/neglected wet dirt road. No rocks or any real negotiating of the terrain!

And as for the new forester's looks - much too close to the ford territory IMO. In the regard to physical size I reckon subaru have broken their mid to large car size that had quite a bit of appeal to me, they're almost just another large SUV on the road now. Last thing to be lost will be their boxer/AWD layout design :(

I want subaru to build a range of vehicles that appeals to the driver inside all of us (well, most of us given the general population using their subaru as a commuter simply because of their safety rating). I've been disappointed with the style of the subarus since the body styling of the 2006 models
:(

Cheers

Yeah, i know they have to be careful with the ones they drive simply because they don't own them. But i know where you are coming from on that. Most of the roads they take them on are just Forest Roads i think.
They had another video that did a recap of their top 5 offroad capable small SUV's. It basically just included this video, but also a few others as well. One of them, the Jeep Compass he ragged on because of the CVT transmission they stuck in it. I've owned a vehicle with a CVT & will never buy another due to their poor/weak performance. I hear Subaru will be or is using them now....
That little suzuki SX4 i was actually impressed with!

Since Subaru and Toyota are working side by side to come up with new cars, designs and technology couldn't they put some of that 'locking centre differential' and real lsd's into the Subarus??? Even some more clearance with the Forester and Outback range.
Put some of that 4WD excellence that Toyota has into Subaru and that good road car stuff into some of Toyota cars. Come on its what we all want :lildevil:

I should create a macro or .bat file program to spam email the idea to Toyota Japan and Subaru Japan  Then see if they get the message.
