Anyone using 225/70R15's?

G'Day folks,

As promised, I am back with a final report. With photos. 2011 Forester Touring wearing 215/70-15 tires on Speedline 2118 wheels.

It took two attempts to mount and balance the tires, on go-around #1 they used weights that were too 'thick' -and they were clipping the calipers and the wheel strut (is that also called the kingpin?). Anyway, back to (another) tire shop, and this time specified low profile wheel weights only. Needed new lug nuts too as it turned out, the OEM ones weren't 'biting' the insets properly and looked as they would almost pull through. The hex heads were disappearing into it anyways. Live and learn.

They look pretty spiff, in my opinion.

Trying to link a photo from Forester.org, since I don't know how to post one here yet? (EDIT: fixed - Kevin)

Thanks all for your advice, it was definitely helpful. I think the thicker sidewalls will be a boon to cushioning the ride during 'pothole and crack season' as well.

-Oh, and we're getting our first lashing of freezing rain tonight, too. Fun times on the morning commute, me thinks.

Hi Feejaru

Sorry to take so long to get back to you, been very busy this is the first time I have logged on for a while. I have a 97 Forester LTd with King Springs and Hankook RF-08 225/75-15's ( A very good AT tyre - fantastic on sand).
When I put the King Springs on I had 205/65-15's and the ride was harsh. However the news tyres have smoothed the ride out. However they would not fit without the King Springs. Anyway I have more clearance than a standard Landcruser.
These tyres "Just fit". I have ony a few mm's (clearance between the suspension shoulder and the rubber.
I used the following website to see if my tyres would fit in side the wheel arch. THe only rubbing is on full wheel lock when turning.

https://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp

This is a great website you can compare tyres sizes to see if they will fit.

Hope this helps.

Are there wheels out there for my wheels?

I am a third time Subi owner, I have driven mountain tracks in a MYseries and in an L series and now a 98 Forester. ( in these older cars I managed to crank up the suspension and use Puegeot 14" rims with 85 profile tyres)

1. Rims
I wanted to increase tyre size on the Forester but found the rear strut is too close to the tyre wall for a wider tyre and hardly allows any increase in OD for a taller tyre.
Are there rims available that will give a bit more off set to allow me to sneak bigger tyres under the standard guards?

2. King Springs.
My standard Forester rides well over uneven surfaces. If I fit King springs to gain a little ride height and effective articulation will I find it harsh over normal road bumps?

Feejaru.

OD info

HI djkrazyk

Sorry for being slow in replying. I ended up using Hankook 225/70-15's (this is a correction for the previous posting) To calculate the OD of tyres I used the following website's

https://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp
and https://www.bridgestone.com.au/tyres/TyreSelector.aspx

The Hankook RF-08's Just fit. They are quiet on road (no extra noise), great on sand and Gravel (I generally do not do mud). Great ride quality.

i searched for two days on the sf forum for a post like this. and first search attempt on ORS i find this!

Thanks campbell9 for the post with all the OD info and conversions since I'm in need of new tires and can't decide between 215/70R15's or 225/70R15's.

What size tire did you go with?

thanks for the reply.

I'm still deciding between 225/70 and 215/75. but P215/70 are $23/tire cheaper. Looks like I'm going with the tire of lower cost.

Is there any rubbing when your sterring wheel is turned all the way in one direction?

Dear Campbell9 Thanks very much for the details about king springs and tyres, it took me a while to work out how to write a reply. I still have plenty of wear left on the standard tyres, I will see about an up grade of springs and tyres when it is economical to do so... or when a good holiday is looming. Feejaru
